Lara Rho is a fallen angel. Given the duty of rescuing the children of air before they can be captured and harmed by the children of fire, she takes her responsibilities seriously. It is because of these responsibilities that she finds herself at a crossroads with her feelings for Justin Miller, a child of the sea.

Justin Miller remembers nothing of his life prior to his rescue seven years ago. He does not know he is a child of the sea. But the sea is where he is most comfortable, and he makes his living working in and around boats and the water. When Lara Rho asks him on a date, Justin realizes that with this beautiful woman's touch, he might soon find the answers he seeks. But the answers he so desperately wants put these two lovers in danger. They have to quickly find out who Justin really is before they are torn apart forever.

Justin is truly likeable in FORGOTTEN SEA. Not knowing who he is has led him to a state of paranoia that comes with losing one's memory. Meanwhile Lara must overcome her reservations about being with Justin: will she be able to continue to fulfill her responsibilities? Lara's introduction into Justin's life comes at the ideal time and the molding of these two characters was dead on perfect.

FORGOTTEN SEA is set in an entirely new world than previous installments of Virginia Kantra's CHILDREN OF THE SEA series. New characters abound in this enriching romance and I, for one, enjoyed meeting every one and can't wait to see who Virginia Kantra introduces readers to next!

Justin has no memory of his past except for the last seven years of his life. All he knows is that is he is most at home when by the sea so he makes a living working on boats and traveling the world never quite fitting in and always feeling as if something is missing. Out of the blue Lara Rho approaches him asking for a date. Little does he know that she can help him discover all that he has forgotten.

Lara Rho is a fallen angel, a Nephilim and a Seeker for the children of air. As a Seeker it is her job to find other children of air before they are found and destroyed by children of fire. The children of air strive for the perfection that they had before they fell and follow the very strict Rule of their Guardians. Those who choose to not follow the Rule become flyers and live on their own hiding from demons and the Guardians. Lara has always followed the Rule and strives to be a strong Seeker for her people. One night she has a dream that leads her to Norfolk, Virginia and to Justin who might be a Nephilim. This chance meeting changes everything Lara knows and sends her and Justin on a journey to find out just exactly who or what he is.

I was very excited when I got this book a read what it was about because I had just told a girlfriend I wanted to read a book about mermaids but I'm getting a head of myself.... "Forgotten by Sea" was is the first book I've read by Virginia Kantra and I plan on reading the rest of the books in her Children of the Sea stories. Since I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series it took me a couple of chapters to really figure out exactly what was going on especially since I was expecting the book to be about merepeople and it started with fallen angles. From what I could gather this was a much different setting from the other books in the series.

I liked this book a lot and was so happy with the last two-thirds of it. The first third of the book takes place with Lara finding Justin only to discover he is Other and then having to bring him to the Nephilim's compound called Rockhaven. At Rockhaven we meet the other Nephilim and the Guardians. I disliked every single Guardian so much so that if the entire book had taken place at Rockhaven I wouldn't have finished it. I understand the need for the story to go to Rockhaven so Lara and Justin could run off together and start their journey but I just felt like there was no explanation to why almost all the Nephilim were complete jerks. I felt like there were a lot of things in the story that could have been explained more and I still have questions about some parts of the story that I don't think would be answered of I read the earlier books.

After Lara and Justin escape Rockhaven and set off to find out who Justin really is the story gets much better. I really liked Justin or Isetyn as he wants to be called when his memories start coming back. I liked that he gradually started to remember his past and isn't just hit over the head and wakes up remembering everything. The romance that develops between Lara and Isetyn is very cute and sweet. The chemistry between makes for some very steamy chapters and also some very touching moments. I think I actually said "Aaaahhhh" out loud once or twice.

I was kinda hoping to get to know the characters a little better then I did. I feel because more of the focus is on Isrtyn we get more of his back story and get a better understanding of who he is and who he was. With Lara it's vaguely described how and why she fell from Heaven, that she was abused in some sort of way as a child after she fell, and for some reason which we are never told why, the leader of Rockhaven, Simon, wants her. I really felt that I would have liked the story, and especially Lara, if I could have had answers to these events and people.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 because I liked the story but I didn't LOVE it. I felt that a lot of the plot could have been done with more detail and much more backgound information. I felt like we were giving an outer layer of the characters and the plot and I wanted to know so much more then I was told. I did really enjoy the scenes with the other children of the sea and I really love the idea of the finfolk and the merefolk.The romance between Lara and Iestyn is very well written and will keep you turning the page. I am defiantly going to read the rest of the books in this series but I think "Forgotten Sea" could defiantly be read on it's own with no problem. Good book to what I hope is a great series. I really enjoyed this, especially the blend of paranormal character types (demons,angels,selkie, mer-people) and the real heat between the hero and the heroine. It's rare to read a paranormal where one isn't constantly rescuing or saving the other, but both Lara and Justin (Iesten) were a team. If you're a fan of paranormal romance, on the steamier side :), I'd totally recommend this for your reading pleasure

Forgotten Sea is a sweet and charming romance, my favorite in the series. Although previous characters from the series return, this book can easily and happily be read by itself.

Lara Rho had a traumatic young life. She was `saved' by one of her kind and brought to a school that shelters air elementals like herself. Now she is grown up and on an important mission as a Seeker, which is to find unsuspecting air elementals like herself and take them to her school and safety, too. When she finds the young and handsome, Justin, she senses his magic but soon realizes that he is not one of her kind. But what is he? When their combined magic sparks and draws vicious demons like a beacon, Justin saves her but is injured in the process. Lara can't help feeling concern for him and risks her status to take him with her to her school. It doesn't help that Justin has no memory of his early life. But there are those at the school who are not all altruistic and a power struggle puts Justin's life in danger. Soon Lara will have to make a choice between a life of security or a life filled with passion and laughter.

This was a delightful romance with two very likeable young characters that are lost and trying to find their own way. The author puts them on a journey that challenges them and forces them to push their limits but also allows them to grow in self-assurance. Especially Lara, who is constantly pushed outside of her comfort zone. I liked reading her surprise at being able to do much more than she thinks. I was so happy that they had each found a person who loves them despite their flaws and insecurities.... Both main characters are fragile and trying to find meaning in their lives - Justin is trying to unravel his past and Lara is discovering if her life of safety may actually be a self-imposed prison. Both characters take risks and make themselves vulnerable.

As both of them gain love, confidence and unsuspected friends in their journey of discovery, this book makes for engrossing reading.
