The Story:

Rio Laraquette thought the legend was nothing more than an enchanted tale about star-crossed lovers who left behind a fortune. That is, until she figures out that she--in a past life--was the culprit who stole a shipment of gold and silver and buried it somewhere in the hills of northern Nevada.

While searching for the treasure, Rio's heart begins to ache for a man who's been dead more than one hundred years. They say time heals all wounds, but what if it doesn't...?

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful love story with loads of suspense and action September 16, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Broken Wings has everything I love in a book: great love, reunion, second chances, Native Americans, reincarnation, suspense, action, and a twist at the end. Broken Wings will grab you from the first line and take you on a thrill ride through the beautiful Lake Tahoe area of Nevada. This action-packed story has elements of the Old West, reincarnation, paranormal happenings, love that transcends time and a hero to die for. Rio is a feisty heroine who I loved immediately despite her occupation as a con artist. I was afraid to read the fate of 19th century lovers Maggie and Tajan, but I couldn't stop reading. There was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. If you want a story that has history, bank robbers, hidden treasure, mystery, greed, and reunited lovers, Broken Wings is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a lovely book! May 10, 2011

This book started out good and ended great! The premise pulled me in, and the surprises just kept coming. I loved the paranormal elements. They were beautifully done. The narrative flows from first page to last, and the historical revelations that move the plot along are a lovely backstory, inserted at just the right moments. This was a delightful read.

If I have to read a book straight through, if I cannot put it down (well, I had to sleep, I guess), then I feel I can recommend it wholeheartedly. And this book meets all those criteria! Can't wait to read the sequel. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Broken Wing is a Must Read! September 17, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Broken Wings is a MUST read! Rio's character pulls you in right from the start. She's gutsy, funny and lovable. Tajan is a true hero that any woman will fall in love with. The story has everything I love, mystery, intrigue, and a true love story. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry. Sandra Edwards is a masterful story teller. I can't wait for her next book!

In a twist of fate and a love for the ages, Sandra Edwards has built a romance that warms the heart. She has taken actual events from history and the lore of the gold rush days, and spun a story of love and heartache, a love so pure it seems like a dream. The characters are sensual and just a glimpse of our hero in a painting is enough to send the heart into overdrive, with a heat that leaves you shaken.

Rio Laraquette is a feisty but beautiful woman; on her own, she runs numerous cons. When she meets up with Turner Adkins, he has a job for her. He is a gangster of the worst sort and he has a game in mind to find himself some money. And not just any money either. He is looking for the buried treasure stolen by the Fuller sisters during a bank robbery back in the 1800's . What makes this con perfect is that Rio is the spitting image of Maggie Fuller.

Molly Fuller was killed during the robbery, Mary Fuller got away and home to California, but Maggie headed for the hills and there found a home with the Washoe Indian tribe. It was here that she met and fell in love with Tajan, the love of her life. But love and life was not to be for such star crossed lovers. When the posse caught up with her, Tajan tried to help her get away. She refused to head towards California and lead the posse to her only living sister, so they went the other direction and here found themselves at a dead end. With the posse in sight and knowing they would die, they chose to be together in death, leaping from the cliff and sealing themselves in their love for eternity.

As Rio poses as a relative of the Tajan's, her image is so much like Maggie's that any doubt melts away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read February 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
At first when I read Turner's thoughts of Rio I was afraid it was going to be too risqué for my taste, but the author handled things very well. Left enough to the imagination as my mother always told me to do. Loved the way she mixed modern with Native American storyline. I never imagined the ties Rio had, but it all made sense in the end. Even though it was after midnight, I immediately started to read "Vegas, Baby' so I could find out what was going to happen to Rio.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3.5 Stars -- Interesting Book with rushed ending January 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book kept my interest and was a quick read. I liked Rio and Billy and their quest for the treasure. There was a bit of a paranormal aspect as Rio was dreaming of her lost love Tajan. For the big setup of searching for the treasure, the ending is wrapped up rather quickly and we don't really get to see the treasure or anything. I did like the twist of the book near the end. All in all, a solid entry from an independent author. The book is not really a romance book other than as told in flashback. This book merely sets up the second book... where Rio meets her soulmate. All in all, this book felt like a prequel to introduce Rio and her soulmate Tajan (which is covered her book Vegas, Baby).

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected story February 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this story. I was in tears and did not really comprehend how the heroine was not very bright in the beginning of the story until later on. It really was an unexpected gem. I am a weakling for romance. Mainly, Native Aemricans' romance novels. There is something that all authors concentrate on, their sensibility, which comes out in every story told. I have seen Native American speaking on TV, etc. and they are exactly this way -- patient, sensitive, and a feel of a deep sadness that's heartbreaking. I do know their history, of course, but I always hope that this sadness has gone away in this century and it has not. This story is old and new, sad and happy, past and present. Truly touching. Great job Ms. Edwards!
