Very interesting, but..., September 1, 2010
This review is from: Forgotten Wards: The Central Islip Story (DVD)
I had a very good transaction with the seller/creator of this video. I ordered them directly through the LI Oddities website because the DVDs were on sale for $10 each.
Living on Long Island, I've always been fascinated by the areas where asylums were - and in particular, the Central Islip location because I live a town over and pass the grounds often. So the videos, pictures and information were all extremely informative. It gave me a look INTO the buildings, which I'm assuming I could never see on my own. I doubt these buildings are open to the public. I know the Kings Park Psychiatric Center is not. It's filled with asbestos.
My only gripe with the DVD (and I've only watched the CI one so far), is that the narrator (I'm assuming it's John Leita himself) speaks very, VERY rapidly. The information is so fascinating but he speaks so quickly I can barely comprehend what he just said. I wish he would've slowed it down a bit. Also, the videos of the interiors of the buildings were not the best filming in the world - very bumpy, choppy and erratic.
With all that being said, I enjoyed the video, and I'm glad I purchased them.
