Trio in one of its best forms and really fantastic!,
By Ali Haluk (Istanbul, Turkey) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Form & Fantasy 1 (Audio CD)
Although Mr. Werner emphasizes that the trio is not his kind of musical form, "Form and Fantasy" is really great in that form. Sicilliene, a Bach interpration first played in solo piano than in trio, take you to to the dreams. Fantastic dreams! And as Mr. Werner said in liner notes: "The good thing about standarts is that they can withstand endless interpretations. They remain fresh and exciting to play. We could probably record Nardis or My Funny Valentine on every CD and have vastly different results each time". Don't make it a matter of probability Mr. Werner. Record and record again. Thank you...

Great music,
By "jerryexspresso" (Columbia, MO USA) - See all my reviews

These musicians sound like they are having so much fun playing together that it is no wonder that the music they produced is of such high quality. The easy unrestrained feeling that permeates this recording always makes me smile when I listen to it. While all the songs deserve attention I would say that "Nardis" is the highlight of the set. The arrangement of it is delightedly fresh and they seem to be enjoying themselves so much that when Werner bursts into song towards the end it is not entirely unexpected. This is beautiful music that everyone needs to hear.

Amazing and Great,
By Dan (Iowa!) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Form & Fantasy 1 (Audio CD)
I saw him live this summer, and I couldn't believe that I had never heard of him before. He has some of the most beautifully done style and melodic changes, while showing deep respect for those who succeeded in composing int he past (Monk, Bach, and Evans). You don't have to be a jazz junkie, or a piano know-it-all to like this music. It's a great CD and is one of the best if not THE best CD I own. Can't wait for volume 2... |
