Editorial Reviews

The City On Film had it’s humble beginnings in 1998 as the solo acoustic project for Robert Nanna during an extended break from tours. A smoother and sincerely softer version of his previous work as the lead singer / guitarist of bands such as Braid and Hey Mercedes, Nanna continued his effots, even going so far as to record a six song ep in a hotel room in Salt Lake City while on the road. With the final Hey Mercedes show in early 2005, Nanna completed The City On Film’s first full-length, full band recording entitled “In Formal Introduction”. Showcasing the ever personal yet relatable songwriting skills fans have grown to love, he’s layered his unmistakable vocal strength and witty wordplay with a new set of instrumentation. Drawing comparisons from the likes of Elliot Smith and Bright Eyes to Jawbox and the Killers, The City On Film’s freshman release solidifies a promising legacy to Nanna, already an indie staple. “In Formal Introduction is a solid debut that manages to showcase the delicately narrative talents of Bob Nanna, as well as an intricately adept musical construction – with the help of some friends, of course.” - Punk News
