Loved it, loved it, loved it. I really associated with the characters and felt like I could walk around the town and the castle as if I were one of them. Can't wait to download the next one. The only down side for me was the ending. Quite a sloppy finish to what was a fantastic story. It has not put me off tho. I'm off to scan the kindle store and buy the next one.

Coleman's book is full of twists and turns and will keep readers reading to find the answers, and along the way you might find...well you'll just have to read the book.

What lurks in the world beyond - and perhaps makes its way into our own world? The Former World explores this possibility in an engulfing and somewhat gothic setting.

The tone of voice Coleman employs in The Former World is part of what makes it such a unique and enjoyable read; while many in the "paranormal mystery" genre flounder aimlessly in needless exposition, Coleman lets the readers' imagination do most of the describing while creating tension, suspense and realism through skillful pacing and natural dialogue.

The novel's youthful, urban characters contrast well with the English countryside setting and bring further depth and mystery to this tale, while hinting at the darkness lying just beneath its surface. The Former World will draw you in and leave you gasping for the sequel.

An introduction to the Little forest group and the type of encounters that will form their world from now on. A great beginning for the series the group is put together and the relationships begin to take shape.

When I started reading this book, I was sure I would only be giving it two stars. It's excellently written, beautiful language, great style, a good voice ... but it just failed to reach me at an emotional level. The only thing I could think was this is clearly written for a young adult audience. It read like "Twilight" (though like I said, a much better writing style) and I kept picturing the cast of "Pretty Little Liars" as the character. These people are supposed to be 21, yet they acted at least five years younger to me. Never have I felt too old for a book. No way was I going to read the sequels.

Yet somehow, in the final chapter, things changed. Finally some quotes rang true for me, and I found myself on the edge of my seat as well as intrigued for more. There was no question whatsoever, even from the start, that Jessica Grace Coleman can write, but now she has also made me curious, if only for the mythology behind her stories. I'm still not too thrilled about the characters, but hey, as in real life, you can't like everybody.

And that's why, in the end, she gets my three stars.

Quite a different story. No sex or violence, but a connection with spirits makes this a good read. It's nice to find something to hold my interest out of the ordinary every day stuff.

This was a great book. Kept you on your toes trying to figure out who did it.
I can't wait to read the other books in the series.
