Book Description

September 7, 2010 Love Inspired Suspense
Someone wants dermatologist Rachel Grant's latest research, and they'll do anything to get it. Including trashing the plants needed for her breakthrough scar-reducing cream—and trying to run Rachel down. Desperate for help, she turns to Edward Villa, the only man she trusts. But the greenhouse owner knows too much about Rachel's research, and now he's a target, too. Break-ins, muggings, murder…the would-be thief is getting desperate—and getting closer. Edward vows to protect Rachel at all costs. Yet with time ticking away, Edward knows they have to uncover the madman shadowing Rachel before their chance for a future is destroyed.

More About the Author

I write Christian romantic suspense and humorous contemporary romance. Out now are my romantic suspense novels set in Sonoma, California, and my humorous contemporary Sushi Series about four Asian American cousins living in Silicon Valley in northern California.

I used to play co-ed volleyball (7 years) until I tore my ACL *twice*. Yeah, not doing that again. Now I'm getting into running--I completed the Couch to 5K program (had fun!) and I used the Jeff Galloway Run-Walk-Run method (absolutely LOVE it!) to train for my first marathon in December 2010!

I have been a staff worker with my church youth group since 1996, and I've loved seeing the teens I worked with grow up into men and women of God. My husband and I lead a worship team at church comprised of mostly high school students.

I'm also from Hawaii and I love to eat. I love Chinese food. And Italian. And Mexican. And Indian. Okay, so I'm a sucker for pretty much any ethnic foods. I get my Chinese food fix every year when my husband's family makes their special homemade Christmas party spread.

I don't have any kids, but I do have a rambunctious pound puppy we got from the Humane Society. She's a butthead but we love her. We tried to train the buttheadedness out of her with six rounds of dog classes, and although my husband and I learned the commands and techniques and all about dominance, she elects not to obey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modifying the Formula, April 18, 2011

This review is from: Formula for Danger (Love Inspired Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
A year after the events of the first book in the Deadly Intent Series, Deadly Intent, another Grant sister, Rachel the dermatologist, is in danger. Someone is trying to steal her breakthrough scar-reducing cream, someone willing to commit violence, someone willing to kill, forcing her to turn for help (and safety!) to Edward Villa, the greenhouse owner who is growing the rare and delicate plants she needs and who is struggling with his growing attraction for her and his revulsion at her workaholic ways. Can these two get their minds right about their feelings for each other while solving the mystery and staying alive? And can these two Christians get their attitudes towards God right as well?

Camy Tang's second suspenseful Asian-American Christian romance about the danger drawing Grant sisters differs noticeably from her first book, which surprisingly turns out not entirely to be a plus. Lacking the excuse of the heroes of the first novel, the romantic obliviousness of the protagonists of this one gets a little frustrating at times. One wishes one could place a hand on each character's shoulder...

and gently bang their heads together until they get a clue! In addition in contrast to the terrifyingly ruthless logic of the first novel's villain, the villains of this novel seem a little stupid. Of course that is arguably more realistic, there being a lot more stupid crooks than criminal geniuses in real life, but there is one critical point where the only intelligent response to events by the criminals would have been to bail. Instead they double down, and even if their last desperate plans had succeeded, it is hard to see how they could have gotten away with it.

Still, it was a lot of fun to return to this intriguing cast of characters. I was a little disappointed by the scanty updates on the couple from the first book, but I had to laugh at learning that the gruff and suspicious police detective Carter who spent most the first novel suspecting Naomi Grant was now dating the Grant sisters' Aunt 'Becca! (It is unclear whether "Horatio" Carter had recognized the value of that formidable lady or was simply trying to keep close to the trouble magnet of a family that generated so much of his police department's workload!)

Camy Tang also wrote the hilarious yet moving screwball comedy Asian-American Christian romance novel Sushi Series Sushi for One?, Only Uni, Single Sashimi, and Weddings and Wasabi.

Note: Ms. Tang is also the author of the start of another Asian-American Christian suspense romance novel series: Protection for Hire.

Note: For full disclosure I won this book from the author rather than purchasing it.

Someone wants dermatologist Rachel Grant's latest research, and they'll do anything to get it. Formula For Danger is a suspenseful story about a dermatologist who struggles to survive. And just when you think there's no room for suspense, Camy Tang hits you at the end.

The knockout ending will be sure to keep you turning the pages. She couldn't have picked a better title! I enjoyed reading about Rachel's journey and was satisfied with the finale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Really?, December 22, 2011
By
This review is from: Formula for Danger (Love Inspired Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
5 stars for this book? I'm sorry - I don't usually write negative reviews but I don't understand why this book was given 5 stars. I did keep reading it all the way to the end, but I kept thinking: really? Just how many times can professional thugs keep missing their targets?! And the religious aspect was over the top, too. This was just too unrealistic to be believable. I just cannot understand the 5 stars.
