This review is from: Audio CDs to Accompany Forrest General Medical Center: Advanced Medical Transcription (CD-ROM)
The 2004 Delmar Thomson catalog states that an audio CD is in the back of this book. In order to get this audio CD of dictations, call Delmar at 1-800-998-7498, extension 2687
Page 115 of this catalog says that an audio CD of helpful exercises is in the back of the book.

Difficult book to use,
By Bookworm "bookworm" (southeast USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Forrest General Medical Center: Advanced Medical Terminology & Transcription Course (Paperback)
This book and its predecessor are difficult to use. While the information may be good, this book requires a lot of flipping back and forth between pages. The CDs are really, really bad. The persons posing as doctors are poor readers. It's obvious they're reading scripts from the sound of turning pages heard. These persons affect poor accents...one female tried to sound Scottish and kept saying "fart" for "for". One male, who reads as if, at best, he has an 8th grade education with a 5th grade reading level (he doesn't understand commas and periods), is really bad to listen to when he tries to sound Hispanic. Loud crunching sounds and cocaine sniffs by one male and the above-mentioned female sound like delinquent hogs at slop. The very worst thing about the CD and text, however, is in the fact that terminology is not only not found in the text, it isn't found in Taber's, Mosby's, or Stedman's dictionaries, nor in the Merck Manual. I wouldn't recommend purchase unless, like me, you are required to purchase these for a class. I know doctors can be extremely aggravating, but no more so than the "doctors" on the CD and this text!

Awesome if you're a student and already have the regular Advanced Transcription Book,

I definitely rated this book 5 stars, but I suspect one's experience with the book will depend on your reasons for purchasing it.
I purchased it, because I already had the "regular" advanced transcription book (by the same authors) that was required for my course, but was really struggling with deciphering the dictations. I had also started late in the course. A few of the audio files featured ESL speakers who were deliberately hard to understand. To me it sounded like a bunch of garbles and hiccups. Some of them are seriously just unreal --- they are so difficult! I was very close to dropping the course. So I purchased the instructors manual - and to my delight, it comes with all of the dictations included within the book itself. So if you're a student and you're struggling with the required advanced transcription book like I was --- then you will love this book! It is beyond helpful. It basically gives you all the answers! :) As well, if you are not a student but you want to learn about Advanced Transcription on your own --- then this book might work well for you. However, for true success, you will need to order the CD or purchase the text that explicitly comes with the Audio files. (Which will probably end up being the most expensive one) My thoughts are if you can decipher these audio transcriptions that come with this book, you will be as prepared as one can be...for a medical transcription career.

Can someone tell me where one would find the answer key for these exercises? I have the audio exercises and the book but it seems to me that none of it is worthwhile unless you can check to see that you have transcribed them correctly!

The training material will hopefully give me information needed to pursue a career in Medical Transcription. I am currently studying the first book. This particular book, Forrest General Medical Center Advanced Medical Transcription Course, I have not used yet. I have done transcription before for a legal group and wanted to pursue the medical records field. The book is full of information that I will use when I begin medical transcribing.

This is a reference book only. You have to call the publisher to order the dictation. Without the dictation a medical transcription 'course' is rather useless.
