Amazing! He saved the best for last, February 16, 2004
Tim Maia was the father of Brazilian black soul music and as a singer and composer his songs have always had a genuine authenticity to them. A remarkable vocalist, with an incredible baritone voice, Tim was also an outspoken activist with a lifestyle that was at times troublesome to record companies. Consequently, he fought an uphill battle to have his talent recognized, even though he was widely popular with young Brazilians since the 1970s.
Virtually every recording of Tim Maia is excellent but he got better and better and better with age. In this cd, Tim focuses on the "forro" music of Brazil but, more accurately, this album reflects his love for the music and culture of northeast Brazil with many songs reflecting his passion for Pernambuco, Bahia, and Alagoas.
The cd is a wonderfully fun and romantic album that was only recently released after his death three years ago. The album is wildly popular now in Brazil and with good reason. I am impressed by the number of original compositions that he has included in the cd for this reflects his true love of northeast Brazil and its music. In sum, the cd is a total gem! My favorite cuts are "Pra fazer voce feliz" and "O que vem da Bahia". Ciao.
