Truly, A Very Eerie Mystery,
By
This review is from: The Forsaken Inn - A Novel (Paperback)
I had never heard of Anna Katherine Green until recently. Shewas born in the mid 1800's, daughter of a NY District Attorney. Her writing is right up there with Conan Doyle , Carr and Wilkie Collins. This tale is about an delapidated inn in upper New York State taking place in the late 1700's. A Mrs. Truax was the owner of the inn. One night a young couple check in carrying a big box that is very heavy that the man will not let out of his sight. They were a strange couple that said they just got married; the wife was very sweet and seemingly very sad and the husband was the rude, surly type. That night Mrs. Truax did hear a scream but was assured by the husband that his wife had had a nightmare. They checked out the next day and Mrs. Truax's handy man told her the box was much lighter. Just thinking about this couple gave both of them chills. the couple left and Mrs. Truax delves into a mystery that is very chilling. The author's books remind me more of Wilkie Collins ("woman in white" etc). To putit bluntly, scare you to death. Not good idea to read them just before bed.

This review is from: The Forsaken Inn A Novel (Kindle Edition)
I am sure on its time, this novel had provoked quite a lot of thrill and excitement. For today's readers who are exposed to much more complex thriller stories, this story is predictable, not at all scary, and kind of boring. On the positive note, I finished it!
