5.0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece.
This brilliant Italian progressive outfit made this recording in 1977 and then disapeared for over twenty years. A pity, as this recording is a classic. It stands equally with the finest of PFM, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Le Orme, Museo Rosenbach and other Italian progressive greats. The musicianship, compositions, vocals(in Italian) and production are all exceptional...

3.0 out of 5 stars IF THIS IS A MASTERPIECE, THEN WHAT ABOUT OTHER 150 BETTER ALBUMS FROM THE ITALIAN PROGRESSIVE ROCK SCENE!?!?!
Just an OK album, nicely played by musicians who are capable to deliver a good album, just a good album, but say this is a masterpiece, well...It's too much, and exaggerated.

It stands equally with the finest of PFM, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, Le Orme, Museo Rosenbach and other Italian progressive greats. The musicianship, compositions, vocals(in Italian) and production are all exceptional. Where there is a strong melodic sense throughout the arrangements are quite complex and rich. Not a weak cut in the entire 54 minutes of music. A must have for any prog fan, Italian or otherwise....Simon

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost Masterpiece, December 21, 2002

This review is from: Forse Le Lucciole Non Si (Audio CD)
This is my introduction to the world of Italian Prog Rock. Brilliant songwriting flowing with melody from pianos, flutes, guitars, bass, even harpsichords (but i think they're synthesized). Some complain about the vocals either being too strong or not strong enough - I think they're just fine, but the focus is more on the music than the vocals anyways. Track 4 has a softer duet. Most of this cd makes images in my head of walking down a street on a brisk winter day in New York City in 1977 while snowing softly and stopping in at an italian restaraunt or deli. My favorite song is the title track. The bonus track is really not essential, I usually stop at track 7 because the ending of it has the same theme as the title track and the album sounds more whole that way. This cd has sparked my interest in Italian prog rock and my collection of it will slowly grow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Italian Gem, July 16, 2000
This review is from: Forse Le Lucciole Non Si (Audio CD)
This is yet another unheralded progressive rock masterpiece, and one of the great prog albums ever. This is certainly one of the top five Italian prog albums I have ever heard, and perhaps my personal favorite. It's certainly up there with the work of Banco, Le Orme and PFM, if not better. A great place to start exploring Italian progressive rock too.. very accessible, melodic and symphonic. Beautiful vocals and awe-inspriring arrangements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Italian Progressive, February 28, 2000

This is one of the great pieces of progressive music. It is not as adventurous as many progressive cds, but it is richly textured and highly structured, with great musicianship throughout. It is also deeply intense and emotional music. If you are a progressive music fan or a classical music fan, or an open-minded fan of music in general, this is music that you will enjoy for a lifetime. You will rarely spend your money more wisely!

5.0 out of 5 stars Last italian masterpiece, October 20, 1999

This review is from: Forse Le Lucciole Non Si (Audio CD)
When I heard this the first time it completely blew me away! The performance is so tight, so skilfull, top-notch all over. The songs have loads of great time changes and themes and everything you want from a progressive album. Dont be fooled by the late year: 1977, this IS a masterpiece. Some songs are faster with a hard energy and some more mellow with the most beuatiful keyboards and themes you can imagine. The singer has a very expressive and passionate voice. This recording wont disappoint any fan of good italian prog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Symph prog at its best !!!, December 6, 2003

I agree this is a masterpiece. Both the music and the voices are briliant. The music is complex but has also melodic sides, and this album can easily be compared to the earlier english prog masterpieces such as 'close to the edge' or ' the lamb lies down on broadway'. It's a shame that the CD version features two tracks that have nothing in common with the rest of the album. But, overall, I recommend this CD to all fans of symph prog.

I rarely give albums 5 stars (see my other reviews), but this one is special. No weak points at all, excellent music and production.
So, you really can call this album "masterpiece". It is better, then a number of well-known prog-rock albums and realkly deserve your attention!

5.0 out of 5 stars As classic as they get, June 16, 2003

This review is from: Forse Le Lucciole Non Si (Audio CD)
For those in the know, Italian progressive rock of the 70s was in a class by itself. For the most part, the bands created a style which relied heavily on Italian musical themes of the past and Mediterenean influences in general. Unfortunately, most of the great bands only recorded one or two albums, and this is no exception. The album came out towards the end of the Italian glory days, but it is easily one of the greatest releases. Rarely does an album of this genre feature such amazing vocals, and the arrangements create a different layer of melodies everytime I listen to it. Superb recording and the extra track is as good as anything on the original release. Highly recommended for anyone dipping their foot into Italian prog.

This album has to stand, along with Banco del Mutuo Soccorso's "Io Sono Nato Libero" as some of the finest European progressive music that I have ever heard. If ever a piece of music defined the term craftsmanship, either through intricate technical brilliance, detailed melodic invention, or the finest points of communication through the nuance and gradation of tone and color, then this must represent these terms to the fullest expression of any piece of progressive music that I have ever heard. Delivering surprising changes of time and direction which seem natural and eloquent; expressive and rapturous vocals, multitudes of melodic tones and shades expressed with counterpoint and beautiful balance; performed with the highest degree of technical accomplishment and precision on traditional rock instrumentation, this album is an emotionally joyous artistic experience. With dual keyboards, as well as synthesizer, moog, guitar, woodwinds, various percussion delivered with breathtaking and brisk intensity; this album is an education in music making. I may have to go on record to say that the Italian progressive music in the 1970's has some of rock music's most daring accomplishments. This album is surely not to be missed. One of my alltime favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the 20 best italian prog lp's ever,apart from"NewYork", January 15, 2003
By
This review is from: Forse Le Lucciole Non Si (Audio CD)
Well the right rate should be 4 stars 1/2, as for the presence of a commercial pop song,as a bonus track, entitled "New York" and also a certain F. Di Giacomo's mood, that is a strong emulation of Banco del Mutuo Soccorso !! But apart from these remarks, this album represents the romantic side of classic italian prog of the 70's, magnificently (the debut album by Acqua Fragile could be another example, this one being anyway too much Yes-oriented and less personal, despite of some great moments).

The first track "A volte un istante di quiete" is already an important credential concerning this romantic grandeur of L.D.F , with the airy splendid intro at the piano, followed by the epic entering of the guitar, by means of a magical interplay in between, a bit PFM-oriented, but with a L.D.F. sound trademark !! Then there is the title track, with the quite lyrical introduction of Leonardo Sasso and the first emulation of the lightest Banco ... nevertheless the album continues to grow in dynamics, with interesting quite romantic passages suddenly broken by some tasteful symphonic breaks through and a magical interplay between the analogic synths (such as the Mini-moog)and the guitar as well. The music narration is always interesting, by maintaining the tension always quite high and sometimes very epic too; such impact makes this album absolutely essential in every prog collection !!
