The Forsyte Saga is a social satire of a comfort-bound class . Galsworthy's characters, have their weaknesses that are apparent throughout the story and their lives.

Love Galsworthy - loathe this Kindle edition,

This review is from: The Forsyte Saga. A Modern Comedy. The End of the Chapter (the complete Forsyte collection, 9 books and 4 interludes) (Kindle Edition)
When I purchased my Kindle, a librarian friend of mine suggested I read a book or two with which I was very familiar in order to more quickly and comfortably identify the Kindle as belonging to the category "book".Seemed like very good advice, so I tried "Anne of Green Gables". Well, folks, it had been bowdlerised - some might say gutted - and the very elements that link the book and its characters to a sense of time and place removed. SO then I purchased (and I quote) the "unexpurgated" A of G G. You who are familiar with the Anne books may well wonder what depravity had been eliminated to save us from ourselves. So that was a 'bust'. For my next venture, I have turned to the books of the Forsyte Saga. I wish I could say I was happier. This time the source of my discontent lies in the very, very sloppy editing of this text. I wish I knew if there was a way I could hack my .azw file and fix it myself because these errors and omissions are going to drive me out of my mind. In addition, anything the editor (a term I use grudgingly) didn't understand was removed - I guess because everyone else is assumed to be ignorant and unable to look up a word or phrase. Irene's hair is now described as "the colour of dark amber" rather then "couleur de feuille morte", the aged Timothy in his mausoleum referred to as a "rummy" rather than a "mummy", fine touches from even cheaper paperback editions just left out as if they don't matter. It might all be funny - if it weren't so annoying. So - bottom line - I am very hesitant about buying literature in this format until/unless I can be sure the writer's work has been reproduced properly. It will probably be ok for research-related pdfs etc since the editors are more likely to have understood their texts and target audiences and the stylistic enthusiasms of authors limited to a telegraphic 2000 words.

"This material was NOT merely scanned from an ink-and-paper book, like many Kindle e-books are. All e-books offered by Di Lernia Publishers are hand-edited and checked for spelling and punctuation errors." REALLY??? Then why is Soames misspelled in so many headings? What exactly is Jeopady [sic]? Errors abound in this edition but for 99 cents it is still a good buy.

I love this saga, nine books and four interludes. Although very deep and detailed in Victorian descriptions and attitudes, I love extended books about the same family. I get very involved in a family series like this, it gives me time to care about the family and the individual characters. This is a great series to have on Kindle, since it'd be hard to carry around that many books!!
