This is a very well made product. The pieces are sturdy, the sizes and curved pieces are well thought through and they have done the work of figuring out a lot of very elaborate fort plans that produce forts that children are excited to play in. The fabric clips are easy to use and take the forts to a whole new level. The pieces come with a very high quality storage bag, which really holds everything in a very compact way (though it is heavy, but that's inevitable with its weight and size).
My one caution would be that you should probably heed their advice that this is for 5 ½ and up. I have two boys - one almost 5 and one 2 ½. My older son has been able to help me build and both do enjoy playing in the forts, but they are not quite ready to be gentle enough with the forts. The forts are fairly sturdy, but they do not hold up to my two year old exiting through the windows. I don't really fault the product for this though - I bought it for too young of children. They do really love the forts and are using them for lots of pretend play and nothing has collapsed on them, but we do have to do regular repairs on the forts given my boys' roughness.
I would like to address a few of the one star comments from people who have not seen or interacted with the product.
Price - I admit, I too balked about the price at first. It is much more expensive than other fort building sets. But it is also much larger scale and includes a lot that the others do not. The most important difference is that Fort Magic includes curved pieces.Read more ›
Just a little helpful hint, I have found the best fabric is tshirt material. I pick up a few yards at hobby lobby everytime I go, using a 40% coupon.
I've built small PVC forts, purchased others- but all my kits have clear (cheap dollar store-sorry I'm cheap!-curtain liners as the "bubbles") exteriors due to the nature of my work. I must be able to see my clients at all times.
The great thing about kids is they project their own "magic" force fields to delineate their space within the therapy environment- my point is I don't need heavy blankets, sheets (don't even think of buying cheap kits-they collapse under the most delicate fabrics)--the children love the spaces they create and they do not need solid fabrics to do so.
Still this product can handle heavy fabric if needed- but the best 4 features are
1. Its very DURABLE- hard for kids to destroy-day after day-
2. It is WAY cheaper than buying 6-way pvc connectors at Home Depot plus all the other parts
3. Curved pieces allow unique design for kids in an 8x12 room with a 10 foot ceiling
4. When constructing the frames before applying fabric the "sticks" don't "load up" under pressure-as a pup tent might which could present a potential eye injury from a tent pole springing out at the child's face. Parents that take their kids camping will understand me here!
I'll buy again.
Although we occasionally have a bar pop out of place, we often leave these up for weeks on end and the kids love it. Make Believe is our favorite station! I highly recommend this for any and all class rooms.
