Honestly, album just gets better the more I listen to it.
Luke Circello
CRY OF ACHILLES - one of the most beautiful, if not the best intros, I've heard to an opening track of any album in awhile..
R. James
Is it any surprise that their 4th full length album would be as good as (if not better than) their first three.
Lissa Johnson

ABIII hasn't even completely sunk it yet.. & the 3 year cycle ends :p This is one of the few bands that I wait for eagerly to release a new album.. remember the kind of feeling you had back in the day, before the release of a new Tool album... or Metallica, RATM, Soundgarden.. you feelin' it yeah ;) ?! so finally Alter bridge grace us with another offering in the form of Fortress.

Below is my track by track review of what I must say, is one of the best Metal albums of 2013.

CRY OF ACHILLES - one of the most beautiful, if not the best intros, I've heard to an opening track of any album in awhile.. the Spanish Acoustic guitar sound.. kinda reminded me of some work by Heitor Teixeira Pereira (Brazilian Musician) with Hanz Zimmer. The song itself bursts into awe inspiring energy soon after the 30 something seconds intro setting the tone for the rest of the album.. I could safely call it the "Ties that Bind" of Fortress!!

ADDICTED TO PAIN - OK.. so when I heard this song first, to be honest I thought it was a mellowed down version of "Wish You Well" off the Tremonti Solo album.. yeah, that was until Myles vocals kicked in.. and then Mark's awesome guitar solo. I was sold by the end of the song. Myles' vocals have never been better, combine that with a mix of hard hitting drums and thrashy riffs, its already becoming a regular anthem at AB concerts as you read this, definitely the best choice as a kick off single from this album.

BLEED IT DRY - one of the heavier songs on this album, Scott displays a good drumming technique making the song sound almost progressive! Myles vocals are haunting really, when he sings.. "one day you will see..." That takes us straight into Marks solo, which is probably one of the best on this album, touching Blackbird standards.

Fortress is like a kick in the ass that will not let you sit quiet . Thunderheart , hard , powerful but melodic and heavy . It may be the most complete and varied album of ALTER BRIDGE and the cd with the longest songs . An example of the variety of styles of FORTRESS is Cry of Achilles , a song with progressive influences like the song that gives the title to this album , Fortress . Then this cd has a long list of the hardest songs that have been recorded ALTER BRIDGE such as Bleed it dry , The uninvited , Cry a river ... I 'm a guy who usually the singles are not my favorite songs , but I love Addicted to pain , that belongs to the list of hard songs I mentioned before . As with every Alter Bridge album , there is a place for melodic songs like the unusual Lover ( awesome mid-tempo)brilliantly sung by Myles Kennedy and the wonderful All ends well . When I heard that in this album was going to be a song sung by mr . Tremonti I don't know what to think about this but Waters rising , that is the song in question , is fantastic and Mark does a work so remarkable as he did in his solo album and also has a place to sing Myles Kennedy what makes the song something special . Calm The Fire is a break in this cd because ,for me , apart from being a very good song , I see a resemblance to MUSE , in the melody and the voice of Myles (may it is a delusion of mine ).To finish, I want to highlight the good work that has made Michael "Elvis" Baskette with the production of this album, giving it a heavier and strong sound , which is what he could not get in the production of ABIII , although ABIII is a awesome album.FORTRESS is the album that every fan of Alter Bridge waiting for this band and that every follower of hard rock and modern metal should buy. Recommended!!!

There are very few albums that you can rank and say, "that is an epic album from top to bottom". This album is surely that and more, from the cover design to the lyrics, this album is by far their most powerful and heaviest album to date. Sadly this bad does not gain the fame as other mid level bands around who do but still, for those who know who are Alter Bridge, we are glad they are around.

Farther Than The Sun, Cry A River, Cry Of Achilles, Addicted To Pain, Lover are my favorite ones from the album. All songs bring that heavy intensity with no letdown whatsoever in none of the songs.

Tremonti's guitar in this album is sick, with the heaviness and rapid pace he brings to each song and with that cruel melody of joy in each song, it is very hard not to like any song here.

I'd vote this album for album of the year in the Metal category, this album will absolutely blow you away.

Alter Bridge is continuing to demolish the world of lazy, mundane music with this album! I've been a big fan of these guys since day one and this album does not disappoint. I could do the whole track by track review but instead I'll just say this, I consider this album to be a mix of the Blackbird positive/emotional blend and ABIII's heavy weight darkness. Sprinkle in some of Mark Tremonti's awesome independent album. Just buy it!

Take it from someone who has never been a real big fan of AlterBridge, but like their music. This is the best album they have done. I'm one that rarely listens to an album over and over but keep finding myself returning to this day after day. The first track sucks you in and it is hard to stop after that.
