Special features include half-page descriptions of significant forts and in-depth articles, each of which is several pages in length. The chronological order is detailed through the ancient, medieval, renaissance, and expanding worlds, but lacks the same depth in the industrial world and in predictions for the future. Excellent illustrations and photos complement the text.
