5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Spindler does it again -- a great book!!
Erica Spindler writes a wonderful story of suspense and family legacies, adding just the right touch of romance to the formula. The twist of incest is haunting as the Monarch family tries their hardest to get and keep Skye Dearborn in their family to continue the jewerly designing empire -- no matter what the costs. As the story unfolds, Skye slowly learns the truth...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as her usual
I have read most of Ms. Spindler's novels and enjoy them, but this one was not my favorite. It was interesting but not overwhelmingly so. It is too similar in it's storyline to many of her other books, but without the redeeming qualities. Most, if not all, of her books involve females falling helplessly in love with the men they hate but this main character, Skye, was...

Erica Spindler is my "newly discovered author" for this year. After reading all of her other books, this was the last one I read. It's just as wonderful as the first one! Now I'm disappointed because I don't have any other books to read by her. Great job, Ms. Spindler! I'm anxiously awaiting your next terrific book

5.0 out of 5 stars Erica Spindler is in top form;an exciting romantic drama, February 22, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Fortune (Paperback)
In 1971 Chicago, Madeline Monarch loves her infant girl Grace.
However, she worries about the way Grace's older step-brother Griffen
looks and treats the baby. She feels that there is something wrong
with the boy. He
r spouse Pierce and his father Adam are elated to have a female in the
family because they believe that she has the "gift" of design that only
distaff Monarchs have. In 1976, Madeline catches Griffen doing bad
things to
Grace. She tells Pierce and Adam, who call her insane instead.
Madeline decides to abscond with her darling daughter into the night.
She succeeds in running away from the Monarchs.
In 1983 Pennsylvania, Chance McCord joins a traveling circus that
has Madeline performing as a fortune teller. Her daughter Skye is a
pain to Chance, but they soon become friends. When Madeline realizes
that the past
is catching up to her, she knows she must flee for Skye's safety.
She asks Chance to watch Skye so that she can divert the pursuers away
from her daughter. He agrees, but soon flees into the night with Skye.
A few ye
ars later, Chance and Skye have fallen in love with each other.
However, Skye wants to find her missing mother to learn why she
deserted her. She also craves the knowledge of who her father is.
Finding either one may l
ead to opening Pandora's Box as Griffen still searches for his
"beloved" step-sister.
FORTUNE is a fast-paced romantic suspense that will thrill and chill
readers. The lead characters are both excellent, but especially
delightful is understanding the motivation behind both of them. Erica
Spindler is
at the top of her game with this novel that should please romance and
suspense fans equally.

I had read several of Ms Spindler's previous books and while they held my interest I was not overly impressed. Therefore I had hesitated on this book but I'm glad I got it. Well worth the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best I have read..., June 13, 2009

This could possibly be the best book I have read by this author. All emotions were present in this novel. I found myself disgusted at times and crying at other times. Parts of this book were heartwarming and also suspenseful. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys family drama, suspense and romance.

This was a page turner, I think my favorite one of hers yet. You really feel for the characters and the description is so vivid. I couldn't put it down just wanting to know what happens next.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have never heard of this author, April 1, 2002
This review is from: Fortune (Paperback)
I saw her book at a book store and I decided to give it a try.
I never read a book from this author and and I like to try new
and different authors and I do have to say I really enjoyed this
book.

From reading some of the other comments and it they think that this one is not that great, I can't IMAGINE what her others are like. I can't wait to get started.

I liked this book, it kept me entertained and focused throught the whole story.

I give it four stars!!

I have read most of Ms. Spindler's novels and enjoy them, but this one was not my favorite. It was interesting but not overwhelmingly so. It is too similar in it's storyline to many of her other books, but without the redeeming qualities. Most, if not all, of her books involve females falling helplessly in love with the men they hate but this main character, Skye, was not likeable enough to make it all fly. She was a real whiner! Usually Ms. Spindler creates loveable characters. I don't know what happened here.

2.0 out of 5 stars A romance novel by any other name . . ., July 15, 2006
By
This review is from: Fortune (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book a bit dull and very predictable. True, I read it to the end, but this was partly because I couldn't believe it would play out exactly as I predicted early on. Can't say I was surprised one bit at the ending.
