3.0 out of 5 stars Very hot but wanted more emotional connection between the leads
The Fortune Hunter has steamy love scenes and more steamy love scenes and yet more steamy love scenes but it does not have a whole lot of anything else between the leads. The storyline, especially for a modern romance is good, I just had a hard time believing these leads felt anything for each other than physical desire.

Faith Castle can have anything money can buy. Her father is rich and
dotes on her. She works as a school teacher, not because she has to
but because she loves children. Almost thirty, Faith despairs of ever
obtaining her life long dream - having a child of her own. While some
women are modern enough to go the single mother route, Faith is not
one of them. She needs a husband first and then a child. The problem
with her dream is that she is not dating anyone who is good father
material and her biological clock is ticking. When she sees Connor
Kingston at a social gathering not only does her clock continue to
tick, but it seems like her heart will beat out of her chest.

Connor Kingston is escorting a friend to a party when he sees his
quarry. She is like a lush golden goddess and Connor wants to make
her his. He has thought long and hard about what he wants and he
wants to be the CEO of a big name company. If he has to marry to do
that, then that is something he will do. When he is introduced to
Faith Castle, Connor has no doubts that this is his woman. Now all he
has to do is convince her of his plan and hopefully she will see that
they both can benefit from a marriage not based on love, but based on
a contract that benefits the both of them.

Faith thinks Connor is crazy to even suggest to her what he does.
However, after she thinks about it, she realizes that it might not be
such a bad idea after. She has one stipulation - fidelity, and Connor
has one as well - control of her in the bedroom. Connor assures her
that he will keep his end of the bargain and he desires Faith to agree
to his as well.

A friend of mine suggested I read The Fortune Hunter as I had not
heard of this book. I got a copy, looked at the blurb, and thought
that there was no way I would like story. I thought Connor too
blatant and unfeeling in the blurb and Faith's character seemed a bit
fragile. Imagine my surprise and complete joy when I discovered that
I was wrong. And I was SO wrong. Yes, Connor wanted control of Faith
in the bedroom with no questions asked. Yes, Connor wanted to be CEO
of a company and Faith was his means to an end. But in his achieving
his goal, he realized that he found so much more than he thought he
wanted and he never once lied to Faith. Not one time did he give her a
falsehood and for that reason alone, I fell in love with Connor
Kingston. His ability to bring out the best in Faith, while falling
in love with her, was uncanny in its realism. Faith was an open book
to me and I could undeniably relate to her. She was self conscious
about her looks, which Connor found utterly enchanting. Her confidence
in Connor was unconditional and while I worried about her giving her
trust to him as soon as she did, he proved to me and to Faith that he
was an outstanding choice.

If you have not read The Fortune Hunter by Jasmine Haynes, might I
suggest running as quickly as possible to the nearest bookstore and
obtaining it? Ms. Haynes has a new fan, one who wholeheartedly
without a doubt Joyfully Recommends The Fortune Hunter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Jasmine Haynes winner!, December 3, 2007
This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Heiress Faith Castle, a kindergarten teacher, has always wanted children of her own. But she doesn't have a lot of confidence in herself and is worried as she's approaching 30 that she may never find a husband and have the family that she wants. She doesn't want to be a single mom - she wants a husband and children.

Connor Kingston wants to be the CEO of a company. He offers Faith a deal - he'll marry her and give her children if she can convince her father that Connor should be the CEO of her father's company. Faith isn't sure at first, but agrees, with the stipulation that Connor must be faithful to her. Connor agrees to be faithful, as long as Faith agrees to do his bidding in bed.

What follows, along with some scorching hot interludes, is the story of Faith learning to have confidence in herself and of Connor learning that being the CEO isn't the only thing he wants.

I've loved all of Jasmine Haynes books. I was wondering how she would do writing a full-length novel and I was not disappointed - The Fortune Hunter is a wonderful read. Also, when you think of the fortune hunter story line, you think of historical romances, not contemporary. Yet this works - the reasons that these two get together makes sense and the heat in this story seems like a part of the storyline, not just an excuse to put sex in the book.

According to the author's website, this is the first book in a trilogy. I'm not sure whose story will be next - Trinity? Josie? Doesn't matter - I'll be sure to pick up the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED The Fortune Hunter!, November 11, 2007
This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Dear Ms Haynes,
I LOVED The Fortune Hunter! I started it yesterday afternoon and couldn't put it down until I finished it!! I enjoyed your stories in Twin Peaks & Somebody's Lover and was glad to see you do a full length novel!

I enjoyed the story line and the introduction of the secondary characters and their development. I liked watching Faith gain confidence in herself--sexually and more so as as a woman and her place in the world.
Conner was a sexy hero that was easy to like and wish for him to succeed with Faith, Castle Mining and finding love!

It was a SEXY & HOT read with a good story line that captured my attention and held it from the first line to the last!

Thank you for a GREAT read that I plan to recommend to all my friends!!! "-)

PS I'm going to check out your Open Invitation next.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE FORTUNE HUNTER hits the JACKPOT!!!, December 12, 2007
This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Jasmine Haynes' THE FORTUNE HUNTER strikes gold! Not only do Connor & Faith find their fortunes with one another, but readers share the wealth as well.

THE FORTUNE HUNTER is rich with delicious love scenes, sensuality, snappy and precise dialogue, secondary characters you'll love (and some you'll love to hate), no holds barred sexual drives of the main characters, and a heroines self discovery that hits a reader in the jugular.

Faith Castle is a heroine like many women in the world. In the beginning Faith lacks confidence in herself, believing that men don't find her attractive and that she may forever be alone - no husband, no children. Faith aches for her own children, appeasing herself for the time being with being a kindergarten teacher to be around kids, but her soul yearns for her own. As soon as Faith and Connor meet sparks fly and it's an adrenaline thereafter with passion, romance and adventure.

I was touched that Ms. Haynes wrote Faith as she did. Faith is a heroine that all women can identify with at one point or another in their lives. Faith was a very realistic woman who strengthened the story ten-fold. Ms. Haynes stayed true to her heroine with class and warmth.

Not to be outdone, of course, was Connor. This author delivers a spectacular hero who matched brilliantly with Faith. Connor knows what he wants and goes after it and with Faith he wants her more and more as each page turns. While he takes care and time showing her the woman she really is, Connor pushes Faith further and further, all the while romancing her (even unbeknownst to himself) and the reader. Connor always treated Faith with respect and as a woman even though their marriage was `in name only'. He stood up for her in various situations showing the reader just how much of a man he is and how far he'd go to make their marriage work.

Glowing praise and loud applause go out to Jasmine Haynes. THE FORTUNE HUNTER is everything readers have come to expect with her work - passionate, fantastically written, compelling, memorable characters and with a whole lot of adventure. This story, I believe, is one of her best yet. The storyline is excellent, hot, tight-fisted and powerful.

THE FORTUNE HUNTER is highly recommended to all readers who like their stories hot, addictive and exciting. I can't wait for the next Jasmine Haynes release - I know it will be well worth the wait!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Warning: This is HOT!, November 18, 2007
This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Faith Castle was a nearly thirty year old single kindergarten teacher that wanted nothing more than to have children of her own. But without a man that was just not going to happen, until her best friend Trinity introduced her to dreamy Conner Kingston at the country club ball.

Connor watched in amazement and excitement as he watched Faith touch her self while spying on a couple behind the bushes. He had a plan for Ms. Castle, he was going to marry that woman and take over her father's company; but what was in it for Faith? He would give her what she wanted most, although he could not promise her what she needed.

Pictures of a man and woman engaging in sexual activity showed up on Faith's doorstep but she did not for one minute believe it was Conner. The prenup that everyone agreed upon would not allow him to cheat or he would lose everything. That was too large of a risk to take. Especially when he wanted the fortune he was in pursuit of getting. Only he would find that the fortune is not in money or corporations...love has no price.

This couple could heat it up in the bedroom, or any other place for that matter. Each erotic experiment was just that, an experiment. Faith had never before been a vixen or closet dominatrix if you will. But Connor showed her that she was a very desirable woman and needed to come out of her shell to know what sex with him could really be like. Let me tell you, this book will make you tingle all over!

Ms. Haynes' book The Fortune Hunter is a vividly erotic romance well worth reading. It was addictive as well as an absolute joy to read. The storyline was heart warming and boy oh boy it was Sizzling! Ms. Haynes has done it again, a fabulous book that you must read. It is so hot that it should come with a WARNING label! 5 Hearts

This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love this book, the heroine Faith is taken on a self discovery that pushes the boundaries of the naughty and sexy and I love every step of the journey. Connor, the hero, is a straight forward hero who know who he wants and what he wants; he is such a delicious hero I want to savor him again. I did by reading the novel again. Jasmine Haynes just keeps getting hotter and better. I cannot wait for the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome story!!, December 5, 2007
This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Fortune Hunter, Connor Kingston, is so amazingly hot, sexy, and shameless, I (a 42 yr old wife and mother)found myself blushing at one moment and jumping from shock the next. I also found myself laughing out loud. You have to read this novel. Take my word for it, if you are a healthy woman and love real, sexy, men; you will absolutley adore this novel. I read it in about 7 hours and now find myself flipping back through it to find my favorite parts. Although, this was my first Jasmine Haynes novel, it definately will not be my last.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!, August 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Fortune Hunter (The Fortune Hunter Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
While The Fortune Hunter is not a perfect book, it's still a pretty good one. For one thing, the romance is burning hot but never crosses the line into ick territory. The author maintains focus on the appealing main couple while introducing other interesting characters (Trinity and Josie) that will undoubtedly appear in future books. This is hard to do well--too often the other characters 1)are annoying or 2)steal the show. Haynes avoids both romance series pitfalls. One thing that kept this book from five stars was Connor. I always felt distanced from him, like he could have been more fully fleshed out. Faith, on the other hand, is a great character: a super-rich, kindly, and insecure K5 teacher who doesn't make her bed, has weekly facials and massages, and longs for a baby. I can't wait to read Trinity's book next!

All Faith Castle wants in life is her own family, complete with children. Unfortunately, her status as the only heir to the Castle fortune doesn't exactly make her a target for family-minded men. Resigned to a life as a frumpy spinster, she contents herself by teaching kindergarten, even though she doesn't need the money.

Then Connor Kingston walks into her life, offering her the deal of a lifetime. He'll marry her, give her children, and in return he'll become the CEO of her family's company. Honest, straightforward, and seemingly too good to be true, it is an arrangement that Faith finds impossible to pass up. Especially considering the effect Connor and his all too sensual appeal have on her from the start. She knows he won't love her, but she can live with that, right? Now if she can just keep her own heart out of the deal...

The Fortune Hunter is the second novel written by Jasmine Haynes that I have had the pleasure of reading, and it has cemented her place in my favorite authors list. Indeed, after reading another of her novels, Somebody's Lover, I was so smitten with her talent that I have purchased many of her other stories and am working them into my massive to-be-read pile. Luckily, receiving The Fortune Hunter for review gave me the perfect excuse to prioritize it in that TBR pile - something I am very grateful for.

In a market that is bursting with historical and paranormal romances, many overlook a good, old-fashioned contemporary romance. For this reviewer, the contemporary romance still occupies a major portion of my bookshelf alongside those other genres. While those other genres take me away to far-off worlds, contemporary novels such as The Fortune Hunter are stories that inspire romantic hope and more attainable dreams for many of us. And Jasmine Haynes certainly knows how to inspire both for her readers.

In Faith Castle, Haynes introduces us to a heroine that is easy for the average woman to identify with, despite her status as an heiress. Faith is insecure with her looks, especially her size, and struggles in a world that focuses on superficial qualities far too often. Still, she is strong-willed, smart, and refuses to settle for less than she deserves - even if she thinks true love will never happen for her.

Connor Kingston pushes all the right buttons, for both Faith and readers alike. His relentless seduction of Faith, even after she marries him, is the catalyst needed to ensure Faith blossoms under his sensual guidance. But the lessons he teaches her backfire on him as he realizes his beautiful wife has unwittingly seduced him with her sweetness more effectively than he could ever have imagined.

As with all great romances, Jasmine Haynes delivers a more than satisfying happy ending for The Fortune Hunter, as both Faith and Connor prove their love beyond a shadow of a doubt, paving the way for a future happiness readers will be sure to dream about long after they have finished this wonderful story.
