Outstanding Tale of Strong Women,
By
This review is from: Fortune Is a Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
When it comes to multi-generational novels featuring strong women protagonists, Elizabeth Adler excels. In this particular novel, she also exposes the reader to a different culture and language as the story moves between Hong Kong and San Francisco's China Town as well as Nob Hill.
Francesca Harrison is the abused daughter of a wealthy San Francisco banker and Annie Aysgarth is an English woman searching for her runaway brother. They meet in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 1906 that rocked San Francisco. They are befriended by Lai Tsin, another earthquake victim, and the three form a lifelong friendship that takes them into the 1960's by way of overwhelming tragedies and glamorous triumphs. This book revolves around strong women who refuse to be destroyed by what fate deals them but create their own fortune, both personal and financial, in a riveting rags-to-riches tale told as only Elizabeth Adler can. Well-drawn secondary characters, plot twists aplenty, and an amazing ending that will totally shock you combine to make this a must-read novel for fans of women's fiction.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. It is much like Belva Plain's style (one of my favorite authors). It is a page-turner that you will not want to put down. I highly recommend this book, and this author. I am currently reading The Property of a Lady, which is engaging as well!

An incredible journey,

This review is from: Fortune Is a Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
This is probably one of the best books I have ever read. It spans over many decades. It's the story of Francie and her friend Lai Tsin. They meet after the great San Francisco earthquake. They are both homeless for their own reasons and develop a friendship that lasts a lifetime. Together they become multi-billionaires but still haven't found the happiness that they both deserve. This book is so powerful it is impossible to explain all of the different storylines that all come together. Read this book and you'll read it again and again.

This is the best book I've read by Adler and I hope she can continue the good work. The stroylines are unexpectable and this book is definitely a page turner. Adler's research into different culture and language was very thorough and accurate.

One Of My Very Favorite Books,

This review is from: Fortune Is a Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book when it first came out years ago & was warned by friends not to cheat & read the end before finishing it(something I never do anyway). The book is such a page turner I was totally shocked by the ending & it left me wanting to read more of Elizabeth Adler's books. If you like interesting, fast moving stories with surprise endings, this is the book for you. Others I'd recommend are Peach and the followup, Leonie. Ms. Adler is a wonderful writer and I always look forward to her next book.

Change of Life,
This review is from: Fortune Is a Woman (Mass Market Paperback)
This book changed my life. A few years ago I was in a state of mire, and by reading this book I was able to spring from the ashes of contempt and prosper in the world today. There are many issues in this book that might be hard for some to digest, but if you give yourself time to understand the true mien that this book has to offer, I say that you should enter this reading with all eyes open and to be ready for a truth that even the human soul cannot answer. So much depth and detail surrounds this book and the text is a idol for anyone to see the power of the female figure and the grand mirth one can use the respect the characters in the book hold. A great book for any pro-woyen believer and to those who still look down, a realization will come to you if you read this. So, just read this novel and you'll understand what I mean. Merci.
