4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Collection August 9, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase

Each of the stories in this collection were extremely well written with punch-packing prose. If you read as quickly as I do, slow down. You will need to soak up every word to catch each action.

I loved all of the references to various fads, political ideas and figures, etc. in some of the stories. They took me back to my own teenage years.

The poems were also very intricately woven work.

My favorite part: The chain around the refrigerator.

I did not enjoy the second story very much. However, I must add that I think I would have enjoyed it more had it appeared in the collection after the third story, which provides a better introduction to the main character.

"Sentenced", though as well-written as the others, just seemed rather juvenile.

A fascinating collection of some terrific story writing by an obviously talented author.

Rating: PG-13 (or maybe R) for language and adult/sexual situations

5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Fiction @ Low Cost September 14, 2009
Format:Kindle Edition
Forty Days is high quality fiction, at a tremendously affordable price. The writing again showcases the author's deft narrative skill and imaginative flair (I have read Gemini Tiger by the same author). I really enjoyed the award-winning "Ivy", the first story -- mostly because you wouldn't think that a male author would be behind the female narrator in the piece ;)! These aren't short stories to be quickly skimmed through -- doing so would thoroughly decrease a reader's chances of savoring the clever wordplay, through the pieces.
