This review is from: Fast Forward Alternative Guitar Tunings (Fast Forward (Music Sales)) (Paperback)
Features:Dropped D Single string changes on the E String Open G Open D Open D minor and DADGAD Nothing on C. It's a realy good introduction and more than enough to test me and keep me interested (roughly @ Grade V UK); anyone following the RGT path will find it useful Grade III and up - just to give some kind of guide as to where it's pitched. But there is a wealth of material out there on DADGAD and the like, and I would have liked perhaps a little more "alternative". I find all Rooksby's books well presented and clear, and this is no exception. If you follow the path through the book you will definitely learn, and learn well. The CD is great as there are two options - play along, or an accompaniment to your playing i.e. gutiar part removed. In the middle of the book, there is a "Fast Forward Guide to Guitar" - a pull out chart..... Now seriously, if you are buying this book and you don't yet know your guitar, then something isn't quite right somewhere along the line. It's not a beginners book. Would have been a nice touch to have some chord positions in the tunings used in the book. So it's a small gripe but half a star minus - probably down to the publisher, not Mr Rooksby. Is it worth the money, yes it is, and I have no real difficulty in recommending it. If you are a beginner that wishes to dabble, I'd probably advise checking out the Net first.
