Review

"I cannot wait to read more books in this series, which features well-done football scenarios, interesting and believable characters, and enough steamy sex to turn a blue-haired grandma's hair more blue. I may have had to wait a while for Tyler's story, but it was worth the wait."--Wendy, the Super Librarian
"The sex is hot, hot, hot. In my humble opinion, it puts Fifty Shades to shame. Perhaps because Tyler and Lavender are dynamic, interesting characters."--Hooks and Books
"Tyler will forever be one of my top book boyfriends."--Guilty Pleasures
"Forward Passes is a decadent and emotion packed novel set in the beautiful San Juan islands that will have readers longing to go on vacation and find a football hero of their own."--Night Owl Reviews
"A terrific plot, romance, and tons of hormones pulsing throughout!" --Sweet n Sassi
"I loved this book!! My first Jami Davenport book but definitely not my last!" --Everyone Loves a SiNner
"A well-written story that allows two damaged people to conquer their demons and find the perfect person." --Sugar Beats Books

First off, can I say how much I love that Ms. Davenport writes guys so well? There's testosterone aplenty in this story, but it doesn't eclipse the relationship between Tyler and Lavender. Those two have got it bad. The sparks fly between them from the start and they've both got solid reasons to not get together. I enjoyed them sparring and getting along both. And the getting along? Sizzling!

Bottom line - I'm not a diehard sports fan, but I've become a Lumberjacks fan. I loved reading this book. It's hot, sexy, and has some great characterization.

I love football and love reading romance. IMHO, Ms. Davenport is the best at writing about both. She delivers a terrific story and a hero to fall for, while writing about a game she clearly knows well and also enjoys. The only problem is that the book cost me some sleep - it's hard to put down!

What a wonderful and very hot romance! As a football fan myself (Go Cowboys!) I really loved the story from Tyler's point of view and seeing that as perfect he looks from the outside he has real insecurities inside that he just didn't want to deal with.

One thing I found very interesting was Lavender's back story. It deals with a real problem that does in fact happen in families where the parents are no longer together. It is called parental alienation syndrome or PAS for short. I think that Ms. Davenport really dealt with this situation very well. It added such a dimension to Lavender's character and to her relationship to Tyler.

Forward Pass is the second in the Seattle Lumberjacks series but is perfect as a standalone story. I have not read the first in this series but this was so good I know I will read it as well as the next book.

Caution: This book is for adults due to language and sex scenes.

I do love sports romances, especially football ones, but more than that, I really love me a jerk hero. And that is Tyler: cocky, rude, surly, bold, arrogant, and deliberately antagonistic at times. For some reason, I always find that charming. Don't ask me, I don't really know why, might have to do with that delicious play-by-play you get when you put said jerk hero with a spunky woman who can hold her own. With Ty and Lavender together, it felt snappy, the chemistry tight, and the sexual tension always bristling. I loved how they interacted, how they teased each other, tested each other, and played off each other.

Ty: I'm falling in dislike with you.
L: I'm already there. It's nice to know we're on the same page.
Ty: It's not just a page, it's a whole book.
L: Like you would know. Have you ever read an entire book?
Ty: Sweetheart, I can read your book just fine.

And you know he's all smug and over-confident and fine while telling her this. And she's riled up and feeling it. I love that. Lots of good tension and chemistry between these two. That was a scene early on, and the verbal foreplay got sexier, which led to some scorching sex scenes. In the back of his truck, on the dock, in the shower, on a plane: what can I say, the man is an athlete. It's supposed to be just some fun, no-strings sex while Ty is stuck on the island for ninety days due to his uncle's will, but you know 'just sex' turns into something more. And that was sweet, too. That scene where he puts her hand over his heart, all vulnerable and wanting her, that scene left me smiling.

I was talking to a friend about why we like jerk heroes, and it all comes down to seeing such a hero's redemption.

My Review:
After the very first chapter of this book, I was in love with it and looking to see if it was available in print to add to my permanent library (sadly, right now, it's not). Right away, I need to give kudos to Jami Davenport. She wrote a hero (and heroine although she isn't quite as bad) who has some serious flaws, which could make him really unlikable. But he's not...she creates a great balance so you can remain empathetic to him even when he's acting/thinking like a real jerk.

The book starts with Tyler as quarterback and winning his second SuperBowl in a row. The guy should be on top of the world, but he's NOT. He's completely apathetic about what just happened and where he's going in life. Immediately, I was in love with this character...just because my heart hurt for him.

Then you meet the heroine, Lavender at the funeral of a man she loved. Art lived next door to Lavender and she had a close friendship with the older man. They'd planned to turn his mansion into an affordable vacation home for veterans, but that plan is derailed when he dies and leaves his mansion to his nephew, Tyler. Lavender has an issue with jocks. She is incredibly drawn to them, and Tyler is no exception to this, but she's learned the hard way that they mean nothing but heartache. She refuses to become involved with another one, no matter how good the chemistry is.

Like I said before, this is a different kind of book, mainly because the hero is not your normal hero material. Yes, he's gorgeous, but he's shallow and materialistic. He admits to staying with his fiance simply because they have really hot sex...most of it make-up sex. He's plowing through his money almost faster than he can make it and works to build his cocky bad-boy public persona.
