5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute classic!!!, March 10, 2005
This review is from: Forward to Termination (Audio CD)
I can't believe there aren't any reviews for this yet, but I must say that this is one of the top thrash albums of the 80s, and almost certainly the best of 1987. Only Death's "Scream Bloody Gore" could give this one a run for its money during that year. I love everything about this disc. The playing is tight, the vox are cool & the lyrics actually make you think. Even the mix on the album is quite good. The cd is impossible to find these days, but I just heard some great news:

Brazil's Marquee Records has signed a deal with the legendary Canadian thrashers SACRIFICE for the re-release of their first three albums (1986's "Torment In Fire", 1987's "Forward to Termination" and 1990's "Soldiers of Misfortune") plus a live album with a complete show from 1989. All CDs will be double-CDs, special editions full of bonus tracks. The live one will probably be released as a CD/DVD set.

The distribution in the U.S. and Japan will be handled by Khaosmaster Records and Disk Heaven, respectively.

METAL LIVES!!!

Second and best record from Canada's Sacrifice. This was one of the best thrash records to come
out in 1987. Rob urbinati has got to have the best vocals in thrash. The first record was good,
but this one lyrically changed and musically it's still heavy and fast as the first.
My favorite thrash band and record of 1987 ! Production is clear and heavy as ever
I highly recommend this record. Released on the Fringe Import pressing and Metal Blade U.S. pressing
A Rare find these days.

This album is pure brilliance to me. Not only is it part of the soundtrack of my life but this band(and album)next to Death, Kreator, Sodom, and Death Angel are the main bands of the 80's thrash era. It's hard to find an album of that kind that can compare.Damn Sacrifice, where did you go?

if you think Slayer was the greatest and most intense thrash band back in the day, then you've got another thing comin. I'm not going to get long winded with this, just say that you consider yourself a fan of 80s metal, thrash or not, this is mandatory. so stop reading this review and just buy the damn album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Canuck speed metal, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Forward To Termination (Audio CD)
Recorded in Toronto during the spring of 1987 (but not actually released until mid-'88), Sacrifice's "Forward To Termination" still holds up as a speed/thrash metal powerhouse all these years later. Along with bands such as Razor and Anvil, Sacrifice proved that Canada could produce heavy metal and thrash metal on par with any other worldwide contenders (and there were a lot of them at the time). Listening to this album is like a time capsule to the time it was recorded, when speed metal was still king in the underground. "Forward To Termination" is vintage thrash that combines the speed and ferocity of Sacrifice's earliest work with a new found maturity in songwriting (though note that the band members were still only 19-20 years old at the time). As an example, the album contains a thrash metal song of epic proportions, the nearly 8-minute long "Flames of Armageddon," which closes out side one of the original LP.

Hard to pick standout tracks, but one song that will always be a Sacrifice classic is "Re-Animation" (one of two songs on the album to be named after a low budget horror film -- the other being "the Entity"). (Historical nugget: the former was good enough to actually have been made into a video of sorts at the time, at least on local Canadian TV, according to the liner notes.)

Back to the lyrics, whereas the 1985 debut "Torment In Fire" featured songs mostly based on imagery from gore/splatter flicks that were popular at the time, the band adopted a slightly more sociopolitical slant on "Forward To Termination." An example is an excerpt from the song "Light of the End," which deals with the threat of nuclear extinction: "Energy generates to make waste of this earth/Reactor overloads, we inherit a curse/Cannot avoid the radiation intake/Cannot correct the irreversible mistake."

Marquee Records of Brazil did a fabulous job with all their Sacrifice reissues and this one is no exception. Included is a well written history/retrospective on the album, rare photos, lyrics and even a track by track analysis of the songs here from the band members themselves, who fully endorsed this re-release.

All in all, highly recommended to fans of vintage speed metal (and there currently seem to be a lot of you out there); well worth hunting down.
