What's in it is good, but...,

The main reason I bought this guide is to get a lot of info sorted and on the page, so you don't have to go from screen to screen. Also, to figure out things that would cost me in game credits to do.
It has a nearly complete list of the cars in the game. It's missing all GM brand cars and their stats. I like comparing cars, so this is not good for me. The cars it does have is great, with just about all the info I'm looking for about each. The only datum I'd like is 'car type' and 'body type' as some races restrict you to 'hatches' or 'coupes' or even to a class of cars, like 'Civics'. The other thing I want from a guide is modification tables. Maybe this varies too much from car to car, but I know the replacement rims are standard among all the vehicles in terms of weight savings vs each other. This guide gives general tips, but not the specifics I wanted. The game's 'auto tune' option does basically the same thing, but doesn't try to explain it to you. Other things it has: -maps of all the tracks, with hints on getting around them. -tuning tips. It's better explaining what all the sliders do, but doesn't come out and tell you what to do. -checklist of all (listed) cars. This is a basic text version of the visual car listings. I'd buy it again, but still would want it to be more complete.

A very informative guide to Forza Motorsports 3, especially on the various tracks in the game.
There are maps of each track with speeds and info on each turn on that track. These really help with making it easier to drive fast. Very good section on car upgrade, tuning, and painting. I was impressed with this guide and Prima always does a good job.

This is a very useful guide in order to understand Forza 3. It gives very detailed information regarding the setting, and data necessary to tune your vehicle to extract maximum performance. It's very organized with excellent detail and most important. All the numerical information of each car. One minor setback it that it doesn't have for some Americana cars, like for example, the Chevy Corvette.

Am I Missing It, or Is the Book Missing It?,

Of course, the book is a lot of information somewhat available from the game but I really like the ability to look stuff up in the book. Especially like the track references, the slight bit of information (general) on how to drive a certain track. Like the list of cars and all the data that is listed in the tables. Handy to see it all at once.
BUT, for the life of me, I can't find any Chevys listed. It's like Chevrolet was left out. Nada. What's up with that ?

It's a great book for the Forza beginner and an OK book for Forza veterans. As a veteran would like to have seen more detailed information (i.e., setups for specific cars at specific tracks).

Book is very useful if you like car and track information. It doesn't focus as much on game play.

Wanting to cut down on the clutter in my home (too many physical books, if that's possible!), I opted to go to the publisher's web site to see if an electronic version of the book is available. Indeed it is. So, I pay the $19.99 and expect to download the ebook.
Wrong--the download is for a .exe file; I use the Mac OS, and *nowhere* does Prima tell you about system requirements for the ebook. They don't tell you this on the product page, they don't tell you this when you're ordering, they don't even tell you this after you order. I happen to spot a FAQ in the ebook store, and it leads to a broken page. Terrific. I happen to have Parallels installed on my Mac, so I launch that, hoping that maybe the the .exe file will download a common file format, such as PDF. No, it downloads some proprietary viewer that will run only under Windows. Even then, the viewer is pretty poor. Come on, Prima, it's 2010. It's bad enough that with PDF files we occasionally have to deal with DRM limitations, but this Windows-only solution is ridiculous. What are Linux users to do? What about Mac users who don't have Parallels or some other virtualization software? At the very least, Prima must tell potential customers about system-specific limitations. I just dropped twenty bucks on a very crippled, and practically unusable, product. Those who desire an electronic version should beware, and Prima should buy into the concept of full disclosure and platform-neutral publishing formats.
