5.0 out of 5 stars Fosbury -fantastique!
Having only come across "Fosbury" and Tahiti 80 in the past three weeks, I guess I'm a little late in finding out about, what I consider is, this marvellous group. "Fosbury" is one of my favourite records of this year. To me, the album's melodic, shiny, funky and, seemingly, effortlessly fresh. The rhythms are great: locked in and riding the groove. 2.0 out of 5 stars this is pretty painful...
I think Tahiti80 are in a slump. I really do like the last two full lengths enough to buy the imports immediately, but I just learned a $40.00 lesson.

The record cover for starters is pretty terrible. A panda in a tux posing with the band? C'MON! It looks like a bad glamour shot.

Xavier's voice sounds exactly the same, unfortunately in many ways so does the music, that is either overproduced in their own right and watered-down. Unlike Puzzle and Wallpaper, not once did I think to put it back on a track I especially liked. Honestly, I was fighting to not hit the skip button by track two.

Save your money for the domestic release if you are curious enough. It's just such a shame. I wish they would have gone more in the direction of Antonelli, to beef up slightly. It is such an amazing track, even if it is instrumental.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fosbury -fantastique!, September 22, 2005

Having only come across "Fosbury" and Tahiti 80 in the past three weeks, I guess I'm a little late in finding out about, what I consider is, this marvellous group. "Fosbury" is one of my favourite records of this year. To me, the album's melodic, shiny, funky and, seemingly, effortlessly fresh. The rhythms are great: locked in and riding the groove. The melodies feel warm but slightly melancholic to me, making it my perfect daily soundtrack, here at the end of summer in London. That said, songs like 'Changes' and 'Big Day' fizz with positivity and enthusiasm putting a spring in my step on the way to work - and that's saying something! While there are a lot of songs on the album, I don't feel "Fosbury" ever really loses energy; it simply changes the pace from a clipped blue-eyed soul track to a gentle ballad that reminds me of Paul McCartney [a good thing in my books, but I appreciate others may draw a breath in horror at that remark...]. Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed "Fosbury" and having had the pleasure of seeing the group perform live last week, I can say they also do the album justice on stage and are a lovely bunch of guys. Vive Tahiti 80!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME SOUND, GREAT BAND!!!!, March 14, 2007
This review is from: Fosbury (Audio CD)
This is one of the funnest, most creative albums I have listened to in a long time. Tahiti 80's sound is incredibly unique and fresh. I can only describe them as a intense collision of soul, funk, indie-pop and rock. It may seem perplexing for a band to pull together such a vast array of influence, but these guys do it brilliantly and this record is an intricate masterpiece. If you don't want to take my word for it, then check out their videos for "China Town," "Big Day," and "Changes" at You Tube.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure Fun!, February 11, 2007
By
Tender "T.M" (somewhere in this world) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Fosbury (Audio CD)
The beats are funky, we're talking kind of retro pop but not as corny as post-vintage pop, this album made me buy their previous albums, extra pieces of sunshine, puzzle, wallpaper for the soul, what i noticed is they have really matured, rhythm wise, even though there are amazing songs like "1000 times" and "a love from outerspace",i mean i keep on playing their album Fosbury at my place and i can see people feel their groove. The lyrics are simple and catchy, they flow with the beats, like i said pure fun and at the same time there is a sense of underground with the all the guitar sounds,"big day" is such a classic, this album is for people who have somewhat different taste in music,it's not really commercial or bubblegum, yet it's easy beats. It's is for chillaxed party people,i think it's worth it,i've been enjoying it with my crowd.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for chilling, but vocals get tiring, December 14, 2007
This review is from: Fosbury (Audio CD)
While I like T80's stuff for chilling, the lead singer's falsetto gets tiring after just a few tracks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album!, September 28, 2005
This review is from: Fosbury (Audio CD)
As a long time fan of Tahiti 80, I believe this latest work is a great album!

It sounds like the one negative reviewer was annoyed that album wasn't more rock? No thanks! I'm happy with the direction this album has gone in. Funky and Smooth!

On Xavier's voice and the music sounding the same. He sounds like Xavier and the band sounds like Tahiti 80. What's bad about that? It has the same amount of electronic production as previous albums except it simply sounds more prominent on this one.

Overall... just think of their previous songs... but funkier and smoother. Less rock and more relaxation.
