  • Players excavate and clean fossils. New Giant Fossil Rocks (containing complete Dinosaur fossils) and Odd Fossil Rocks (which are two-sided) add to the fun of the cleaning process
  • Once the fossils have been cleaned, they can be revived into Vivosaurs, which players can then arrange into teams for battles. The better the fossils have been cleaned, the more powerful the Vivosaurs are in battle
  • Strategy is key in battles. Players must put forth teams of three Vivosaurs, then rotate their positions to maximize their power advantage over opponents
  • New Super Evolver Vivosaurs evolve into new forms with the help of golden fossils
  • Players can compete in matchmaking battles or upload their best team to see how it fares against others. Players can also download additional Vivosaurs and events

After playing and greatly enjoying the original Fossil Fighters, I was psyched to hear that a sequel was coming out. In my excitement, I rushed out on release day and grabbed myself a copy of Fossil Fighters: Champions. So, does this game live up to my expectations? Does it improve on the original? Let's find out!

Graphics (score 8/10): Well, I must say that the graphics here are MUCH better than the original. The environments look much more detailed and more 3-dimensional compared to the orginal game. The in-game characters still look kind of flat in comparison to the environment, but they are much more detailed than they were before. The dinosaurs look pretty good. A notable addition here is the inclusion of high-quality 3-dimensional cutscenes. These cutscenes look great. The art design remains sort of cartoony with big-headed people and bright colors, but it's vibrant and nice to look at, so I'm pleased.

Music (score 8/10): The music is pretty good; it's just above average due to many of the tracks having a little more complexity and interesting melodies than your average generic RPG tunes. There are also many cute sound effects that help add to the overall humorous feeling of the game. I should also mention that there is no voice acting, which some people might be disappointed about, but honestly, I'd rather have no voice acting than bad voice acting. Also, voice acting on the DS is rather uncommon anyway, so I can't really hold it against this game.

Characters (score 8/10): Well, you're main character is still a dreaded "silent protagonist". Let me explain. In RPGs there's a tendency sometimes to have main characters who never speak, and thus, do not have much by way of a personality. We pretty much have that here, which is unfortunate.

I didn't know this was the second game in the series, as a matter of fact, I not quite sure what the game is about. What I do know is that my son has been playing this game since receiving it as Christmas gift and only puts it down when he's made to do so. With most "E" games he gets bored quickly or beats it much too quickly, this one he loves and is still playing!

This game is much better than Fossil Fighters. Yes, it is a sequal, a vastly improved one. You find fossils, clean them, then revive your dinosaur, called a "Vivosaur" for battle. The battles are better than the first one. Instead of just switching your vivosaur to have the advantage against the foe, you rotate your vivosaurs for that, and to get it into optimum range. You have Fossil Points to spend on skills, and diferent vivosaurs specialize in different stats. The story is direct in the beginning, you are a kid, you look for fossils to help you win the Fossil Battle Tournament, but at the end, there is a MAJOR plot twist. You also get a choice of 1st Vivosaur.

This game is the second in a series. My grandson had beaten the first game and almost melted when he learned the second one was due to release. Amazaon got us the game for $5 cheaper any where elso and we loved the fact that it came to the house and we didn't have to brave the crowds. Grandson loves the game and only puts is down for lunch and dinner. You might say he REALLY likes it!

This game is tied for my favorite Nintendo ds game, (Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is other one). I never played the original fossil fighter game but I didn't need to love this one. Dont be scared off but the first time I played it I had difficulty with collecting fossils and some battles. However, it wasn't so hard that I couldn't play it anymore, in fact it challenged me to make the game even better. You do get to choose you're gender and there are 2 save slots. You meet tons of friends, frenemies, mentors, hereos, rivals, and enemies, along the way that make the experience a magical one.
Parents: If you're looking for a game to get your kid this Christmas, I recommend this one. While they may not like that's it's not a 3ds game (or the new smartphone (kids right?)) once they play it they'll enjoy it forevermore.
If you do beat the game once you start a new one you can be able to keep the vivosaurs you revived in the previous game (if you press the right choice at the beginning). Making the second time through easier and a bit more enjoyable (ignoring the fact you know who the bad guy is) because you get to have the same vivosaurs you trained before. Picture it like Pokémon, you beat the elite four now you can restart the game and have all the pokemon you had before (including the ones in your pc box) to use as you see fit. No more saying goodbye to the guys you spent hours leveling up and bonding to. It's storyline is incredible and makes you want to play it again and again. The vivosaurs (dinosaurs you revive to use in fights) are so cool looking and when/if you choose to use a special fossil to extreme revive them they can evolve into cooler (also sometimes weirder) looking versions of themselves.

My eight year old son begged me to order this for him after Christmas. He was excited to buy it with his own money after seeing one commercial. We are both impressed that it lives up the the hype! He is having a great time playing!!
