Fantastic recorder, and great price!,

This review is from: Fostex VF160EX Multitrack Digital Recorder with CDR and Effects (Electronics)
I love it! Works great and sounds great, like a professional recording! Sounds better than Pro Tools! The only complaint I have is that the manual is soooo long and Extremely difficult to understand. Even a computer Engineer I know had trouble understanding the way everything was phrased and described. As a result it took me a loooong time to figure out, but when I did, it was worth it! Thank you Fostex, probably the best digital multitracker on the market!

Best Portable Recording Studio In the World,

This review is from: Fostex VF160EX Multitrack Digital Recorder with CDR and Effects (Electronics)
If you are in the market for a small do it yourself recording studio, look no further. This is the best one. I've been pretty frustrated with other studios currently on the market right now. I owned the Korg D320 (A $1400 unit) and the Boss br1600 before this puppy and they didn't come close to same sound quality. My previous recording studios were just a big hassle; they clipped all over the place and would loose a lot of the over all sound level from recording to play back. The nice thing about this studio is basically what you put into it you get back; in my experience it actually sounds even better upon play back, what a bonus! As with any studio you do have to keep your levels up if you want a crisp punchy volume level on your burnt CDs, but with the peak level being so forgiving it's a lot easier to do. You should try that with the Korg studios; even lightly strumming a guitar can get you terrible clip static. I don't ask for much with a studio just that it does the basics. I don't care about stupid effects; I've got my own external effects processors, but the effects for this unit are pretty good, if you need them. If you're going to get the fostex go with the 40GB I have the 20GB and it doesn't have V-tracks; I don't really need them all that much, but I wish I had them anyway. This is an awesome studio it works great with all my musical instruments, my Roland electric drum set sounds beautiful through it, couldn't ask for any thing better.

I already own the Fostex MR8 MKII and love it. I decided that I needed more tracks and bought this unit. This unit performs beautifully. You must use high quality mics to get the full potential of this machine. I use a Mackie 14 channel mixer, a DBX 286A expander and a number of high quality condenser mics. The sound is awesome!!!
