Broke upon the first use. I've been using cable releases for years so its not like I didn't know how to use the thing. Its just SOOO cheaply made the release broke upon normal first time use.

I bought this one because another one was locked up. Lo and behold, just as I took this out of the package it was already locked extended. I was able to twist-and-pull the rounded lock washer to release it once - but the push cable is so tight (no lubricated in any way) and instantly locked extended. No way to loosen it. Another $$$ wasted. Cannot even pull the cable back out with the plunger or anything else.

I generally dont feel the need to write a review but I felt that others should be warned.

Its not the most well constructed cable release. I had to tighten things multiple times during a 2 week trip. And on the last leg of the trip, things started coming apart and I lost the top cap where I need to push to release. I was left with just the screw tip and taking a photo every time would just stab my finger. Also either the screw threads are messed up or the insert or tongue isn't long enough, but half the time, I wouldn't be able to take the photo.

If you use it at home it should be fine, but maybe not in the field.....

The retaining ring or pin for the plunger shattered the first time I used it. Not a worthwhile purchase. Buyer beware.

Fine little release for the money. Yeah, the old cloth covered ones had a nicer feel, but the vinyl sleeve works just fine.

I was a little concerned about the previous reviews that complained about the automatic locking feature.

To clarify: this release works both as a locking and non-locking release: with the thumb wheel unscrewed, the release locks and is disengaged by simply depressing (not turning) the wheel. However, if you depress the thumb wheel and and screw it in clockwise it stays in the released position and the cable release works as a standard non-locking release.

Standard threads, smooth actuation. Too soon to talk about longevity.

I needed a replacement shutter release cable to replace the broken one on a 1929 No1A Pocket Kodak folding camera. I looked online trying to find a genuine Kodak replacement, but there were none. So I took a chance and ordered the cheapest possible modern one I could find with the logic that if it worked, then I would spend some more money on a higher quality one.

I knew this was a vinyl encased cable and not like the cloth wrapped one that came with my camera, but it seemed OK quality. I can see how some people complaints on here about how it can get "stuck" in the down position. Thankfully this isnt an issue for the Kodak folding camera as the activation of the shutter is momentary and keeping it in the "pressed down" position does not ruin the shot by keeping it open.

In either case, this did the trick. It screwed into the threaded hole where the original shutter release cable was and it activated the shutter when I needed it to. Its a little too long to keep stored with the camera, so I will have to unscrew it and rescrew it back in when I need it, but thats OK since this antique camera is just a project I have at the moment. I dont see myself using this camera very often.

But still a cheap, probably Chinese made, vinyl wrapped shutter release cable worked fine on an 85 year old antique camera is pretty cool!

I wasn't expecting much for a cable release of this price. I was pleasantly surprised of the quality. I recommend it.
