Good quality. Seems like it will work as well, if not better than the Canon part. The Fotodiox adapter is made from metal. The Canon adapter is made of plastic. My Canon adapter (like many other's reviews on here) is sometimes VERY difficult to remove from the filter. This metal one is just like unscrewing any other filter from a regular lens barrel and works pretty flawlessly. I'm tempted to put a very tiny drop of some silicone lubricant on the threads to make them smoother and to absolutely be sure that the threads won't lock onto the filter, but I doubt that would happen if you didn't add any sort of oil/lubricant.

I have both this filter adapter and the one that it replaces. It seems stronger due to being thicker than the adapter it replaces. The filters fit with no problem. I would recommend this filter adapter to those who own the Canon Powershot G1x.

I don't understand why Canon did not provide for lens filters on the G1x, but they did not. Since they did not, and wanting a filer to protect the lens and more, I tried this adapter, It's quality is exactly what I hoped for.

It fits if you want to use filters and I do. I bought a UV filter mainly for protection of the inner lens.

I have them screwed on my 3 main filters: a Moose's color-corrected polarizer (the ultimate filter for a landscape camera like the G1x), my trusty 2-stop graduated ND that no outdoor shooter should be without, and a plain Hoya UV lens protector. Filter changes are now accomplished in seconds, and the filter case is velcroed to the camera case.

The flimsy Canon mount is not recommended. It gets stuck to the filter. These are high quality, give great results and you can buy 3 machined aluminum adapters for the price of one flimsy Canon plastic one.

If you are looking for the best filter mount at any price for the G1x, you've found it. Get several.

This adapter, as with any adapter, when a filter is mounted can cause vignetting at various focal lengths. That being said it fits snug and is perfect for adding filters, etc.,just watch for the vignetting (dark areas in the frame caused by extending the length of the lens body just that little bit).

Given the price it was hard to consider the Canon FA-DC58C adapter. Read the reviews on the Canon adapter about it being plastic and what effect that might have on regular changing out of filters for the Canon G1x camera. After some brief testing the Fotodiox adapter should hold well.

Yet for the Fotodiox pricing, it is cheap enough to buy one for each of your filter needs. I bought this one for use with a polarizing filter, with thoughts on maybe a closeup filter to give me better closeup capability than the Canon G1x gives. In the end I will be willing to but multiple adapters for my filter needs.
