This collar is of very good quality and functions as it is suppose to. There are no sharp edges on mine and it is easy to unlock the collar to be able to rotate the lens/camera within the mount.
I wanted to get a Canon mount as I did for my 70-300 L but Canons wants a @$#%&$#(*) amount of money for its tripod lens mount/collars. They are of excellent quality, but they are simply NOT worth
the money Canon asks for them, so this becomes a good option. I am happy with the 2 that I have gotten for my lens on my Canon 7D. Recommended !

I have bought Fotodiox stuff before and was fully prepared for less than stellar manufacturing standards and non top quality fit and finish. Even with that in mind, this product disappointed.

The OK:
* The locking mechanism seemed like it would work fine. It opened, closed and locked.
* The ring itself was fairly stiff when loosened and this I could have lived with.

The Good:
* Much cheaper than the Canon OEM version - as in 1/5th the cost!

The Bad:
* The finish of the bottom where a plate would go was very sharp (casting?) edges.
* The design of the "topside" of the bottom (where your hand would go if carrying lens by the collar) was very sharp angular edges. All 90 degree edges instead of nice rounded and tapered edges in the original and other knock-off models. Seriously, you'd cut your hand if you carried your setup with this bracket as is often done!

The Ugly:
* All those aforementioned hard, sharp angles. Not refined looking at all!
* The captive 1/4" female mounting hole is drilled all the way through. Really kind of tacky looking compared to the OEM and other knock-offs. The drilled through design is most certainly cheaper to manufacture and may be stronger and easier to replace if the threads stripped but I've never heard of that happening. Again, not a refined look.

Fotodiox let me down on this one. It's already back to Amazon.

Better options = Vello from B&H, IShoot models from that bay place (shipped from China) and others that are clearly closer to the original Canon model and still much cheaper.

Hope this helps,
Steve

The Canon tripod mount for this lens does not have a 90 degree angle on the foot. The lens moves freely, but not smoothly when using the ring. It's ok, but if I was going to use this everyday on the lens, I'd get the official Canon version.

This collar is as solid as you ever need, and is priced FAR better than Canon's name brand one. Plus, the main thing I like about it versus a different Canon one that I have: it hinges open so that you can put it on or take it off without having to remove the lens from the camera. The less lens changes that you have to do, the less chance there is of dust build-up on the sensor! Plus, you really do benefit from using a tripod with this MACRO lens for super close-ups.

This is a good strong collar with a reasonably easy to operate latching system. Unfortunately, the shape does not allow the body to rotate more than about 60-75 degrees, in either direction. MAnufacturer has been very good about accepting return and providing refund. Reportedly, they are working on corrections to the collar.

Metal construction, padded covering inside both halves of the ring. Easy to install when the lense is off the camera. Has a positive lock on the ring. Since this is on a macro lense it is short unlike the long telephoto lenses rings are usually associated with. That means the ring will not turn all the way around the lens. Finish is good, price is good.

Works great.I have used it on my Canon 6D with the 100mm f2.8L macro. No issues. Locks down tight up against the lens. Will help stabilize my macro shots better with the balance point shifted forward to the lens instead of the camera body to minimize shake in close-up shots. There is no padding on the inside of the ring that locks down against the barrel of the lens so that would be my only gripe. Not sure if this will lead to any issues of scratches over time. We will see.

Works Great. Perfect fit and function. No reason to pay the unbelievable price of name brand. Well made, and fine craftsmanship.

This collar is very solid and does what it's supposed to do with ease. It is easy to adjust while mounted on the tripod and holds the lens very solidly.

As I am with many "after market" accessories for my expensive camera equipment, I was a bit hesitant to try this adapter for my Canon 100L Macro lens. However, it turns out to be really well made, and it fits like a glove. Super easy to install and it features a locking mechanism that you disengage after loosening the tension screw.
