4.0 out of 5 stars Good adapter, fits tightly
I bought the Fotodiox Pro Nikon F to Canon EOS lens adapter to experiment with using old Nikkor manual focus lenses on my Canon cameras. Fotodiox offers three models of Nikon F to EOS adapter; this is the mid-price one. I bought it because the cheapest one gets mixed reviews, with some people complaining that it doesn't hold lenses tightly enough. Only the most expensive,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Only for lenses with aperture rings
This adapter fits and works, but only for lenses with aperture rings. Newer G style lenses without an aperture ring will stop down to smallest f-stop and be nearly unusable. If you want to operate a G style lens, then order the G style adapter from Fotodiox.(see link below). This is a fine adapter for older style lenses. Note that removing it from the lens is tricky. Only the most expensive, on the other hand, includes a chip that allows your Canon camera to confirm focus by lighting up the AF points in the viewfinder. I chose this one because I wanted my lenses held firmly and I figured I could live without focus confirmation. (Also, the focus confirmation model costs twice as much, and I couldn't find it on Amazon anyway. You can order it directly from Fotodiox if you like.)

This adapter does its job pretty well. It does indeed hold lenses firmly. My one fairly minor annoyance with the adapter is that it is kind of a pain to remove from a lens, and in fact you have to figure out how to remove it because there are no instructions provided. (There is a small black lever on the camera side of the adapter that you have to hold down to release the lens. It isn't easy to press the lever down and twist the lens at the same time, but with a little practice you get used to it.)

Another thing that is worth knowing is that not all Nikon F lenses will actually mount and be usable on your Canon camera even with an adapter. This is not the adapter's fault. Some lenses have parts that stick out the back end and may (on some camera models) interfere with the motion of the reflex mirror, or even prevent the lens from being attached by bumping into some part of the camera's insides. It's best to do some research online first to find out whether a lens you're interested in will work with your camera.

The Fotodiox Pro adapter for Nikon Lens to canon EOS is great. All my Nikon Lenses fit perfectly onto my Canon 5D Mark II. I had to shoot everything manual since the lens can't "talk" to the body with the adapter but I prefer shooting manual so no complaints. For the price and the fact you can use all your Nikon's on the Canon, it's a no brainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nikon glass on your Canon? No problem, May 17, 2010

I was skeptical that I could use my Nikon lenses on my new Canon T2i, which I purchased for video work. I was even more skeptical after purchasing some of the $10 adapters from Hong Kong, which did not fit tightly and made it difficult to focus cleanly. But I gave it one last shot by purchasing the Fotodiox Pro adapter - and it paid off big time. The adapters work great, and are tight fitting. There's no loss of light whatsoever, and you can focus fully throughout the entire range. It's well worth the extra money to purchase these and put your Nikon glass to work.

Awesome adapter but pricey.

Mounting Nikon lenses to EOS Canon.
I have a 5D mark ii, fotodiox pro adadpter, Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AIS lens with the existing tab sticking out and unmodified. If looking from the front, you have three different angle options to mount the lens on to the adapter. Only one of the three works and does not conflict with mirror. The other two lens-adapter mounting angles will conflict with the mirror on the camera. You will see this conflict when your videos or photos show darkness on lower half. I found out the same thing with a Nikon 24mm f/2.8 ai and Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI. I also have the fotodiox v2 and same above applies. I have no experience with the 5D classic. Canon t2i (550d), the above lenses and adapters worked at all mounting angles and never had a conflict.

Using it on a Canon t3i to mount a Nikon lens. Locks very well and appears to be built well. No instructions but it's easy enough to figure out.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Down-side..., August 22, 2010

This review is from: Fotodiox Pro Adapter -- Nikon Lens - Canon EOS Camera Adapter for Canon 1d, 1ds, Mark II, III, IV, 5D, 5D Mark II, 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, Digital Rebel xt, xti, xs, xsi, t1i, t2i, 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D, 1000D (Electronics)
This adapter is very good. I have used adapters from various manufacturers for Pentax M42 & K mount, Olympus OM, and this by far is the most solid, well-made adapter I have seen.

The lens mounts securely to the adapter. The adapter mounts securely to the camera. There is no "slop" in the fit. The adapter stays locked to the lens so you can treat the lens just like any other Canon lens (with regard to mounting and unmounting).

As usual, one must focus manually (like photographers did for 100 years...) and set the exposure manually (though my Canon TTL meter works in AV and M modes allowing reasonable easy exposure setting).

As some have correctly pointed out, there are lenses that may be incompatible with your camera - best to research this before you purchase the adapter and especially, before you mount the lens and find out something "hits".

I am using this to mount a Zörk Panorama Shift Adapter (PSA) to a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. It works perfectly. Since this set-up is essentially an adapter-mounted-to-an-adapter-mounted-to-a-lens, the amount of "slop" could be multiplied. But because both adapters are high quality, the lens feels solidly mounted to the camera with no looseness - just what is needed for precise infinity-focus and a flat field aligning with the sensor. It exceeds my best expectation!

The added bonus for me is that I can now share my PSA with my Nikon-toting friend, and he can share his Nikon lenses with me!

This item is well worth the price, and comes highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Better than my previous adapter, July 19, 2010

This review is from: Fotodiox Pro Adapter -- Nikon Lens - Canon EOS Camera Adapter for Canon 1d, 1ds, Mark II, III, IV, 5D, 5D Mark II, 7D, 10D, 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, Digital Rebel xt, xti, xs, xsi, t1i, t2i, 300D, 350D, 400D, 450D, 500D, 550D, 1000D (Electronics)
I purchased this adapter because I was so frustrated and disappointed with the Cinevate EOS to Nikon adapter. I promise it is worth the extra money to buy this adapter. It is SO much easier to remove, the construction is more durable, the infinity focus is perfect - I am very happy with this adapter in comparison. Buy it.

Peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Amazon Customer reviews Fotodiox Pro Adaptor, November 11, 2011

I have several 35 year old Nikkor F mount lenses: 24mm, 50mm, 200mm 400mm and 35/135mm zoom. I want to use these on the Canon Rebel T3i which I just purchased. I've researched, and read many reviews on the available adapters. There are cheap, (around $20) adapters, from Fotodiox and other manufactures, which all seem to have bad reviews: bad fitting, cheap quality, etc. I did not want a cheap product. There are also adapters selling for $100 to $200, but I did not want to spend that much. So I went with adapter for $70. I am happy with the quality, is is not cheap, it fits very well, and works fine with no play.

Mounting the adapter to the lens is easy, just twist it on until it click (locks) into place. You mount (and remove) the lens (with adapter) on the Canon, the same way you would mount any Canon lens. This is all very easy, the only difficulty is getting the adapter off the lens. The release lever is very small (it has to be), so you have to be careful and not force anything. You push in the release lever, which lifts the spring loaded pin (which locked the adapter to the lens) then you can twist and remove. This is delicate work, like changing ram memory on a mother-board. Not difficult, you just have to be careful. And, probably NOT something you want to do several times a day. If you plan on changing lens frequently, then I would suggest, you install the adapter on the lens, but STOP before it locks into place. It still fits snug and works fine. Or buy one adapter for each lens, so you don't have to remove them. If you are careful removing it you will be OK, but we all get impatient sometime, so just be careful.

Is it worth it? HELL YES! My old Nikons lenses are like a Rolex, the Canon and Nikon lens made today are like a plastic $10 watch. Beside the obvious 'feel' difference, my Nikkors are NOTICEABLY sharper and brighter. Focus is also a problem with today's consumer lens, but not with my old lens. The Canon 7d and 5d have more features than the T3i, but as far as quality Video and photography, the quality of the lens is the most important feature, not the megapixels of the sensor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but good quality, August 1, 2011

I was looking for an adaptor for my father's old 35 mm Nikon lenses to use on my 5D Mark II. I had read numerous reviews of ones purchased in China and on Ebay and the fit and finish varied greatly it appeared. I wanted a well machined product and read about the Fotodiox Pro series. The machining and construction is solid and quality made. Locks onto the lens with no play and also to the body with a solid click and no play as well. One slight issue is the adaptor ring juts out slightly enough out of the body to make rotating the aperture ring difficult at times.. I do landscape so it's no problem... might be if speed is needed. Need to meter TTL in stopped down mode like the old classic cameras but works beautifully with metering with my 5DMkII.

This site explains it well...
[ ... ]

Overall, I am very satisfied. One thing is that they do not include instructions on how to remove it. There is a lever on it that you depress to unlock the pin. The adaptor unscrews with some (reassuring) resistance. Don't forget to purchase another Canon lens cap if you intend on leaving it on for extended periods of time. Pricey... but you get with you pay for. Good stuff!

I accidentally ordered this thinking it would give me aperture control for lenses that don't have it, but it doesn't. It was my mistake. Otherwise this thing does exactly what it says. It fits snug, nice metal quality build and pin snapping. You could actually order it and set the aperture with your Nikon then once set, remove the lens and place it on the Canon. I forgot to try it and see if it worked, but I'm sure it does. It would save you the money of having to pay for the $200+ Cinevate adapter ring with aperture control.
