5.0 out of 5 stars Pro-Pain...What Are They?, March 31, 2005
This review is from: Foul Taste of Freedom (Audio CD)
Nu-metal? Thrash? Hardcore? I hate classifying music into genres, but I'll just say: FREAKIN' SWEET! Damn, this is good stuff right here. This record really shows that the band could fuse rap and metal together and leave those Limp Bizkit posers to die. "Death On The Dance Floor" and "Pound For Pound" are amazing masterpieces, as well as my favorite, "Foul Taste Of Freedom". "Johnny Black" is sort of a Gorilla Biscuits meets Pantera sort of dealy. The rest of the album is just brilliant. You can't go wrong with any Pro-Pain album. Death to Limp Bizkit!

4.0 out of 5 stars The definative Pro-Pain Album, January 22, 2004
By
MossRyder (Somewhere in Indiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Foul Taste of Freedom (Audio CD)
This is definitly the greatest effort put forth by the heavy-metal band Pro-Pain. Actually riding the edge between metal and a kind of angry white rap, the tone on this album absolutly blows away anything seen on their later works. The guitars are fat, and the vocals are full-on and in-your-face. Might come off as a bit cheesy, but thats what we love so much about tracks such as "Iraqniphobia" and "Murder 101": their tounge-in-cheeck approach to vocals mixed with a solid foundation of bass, drums and chunky guitar. A must-have for any Pro-Pain fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Hardcore album ever, February 17, 2002
By
Chump (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Foul Taste of Freedom (Audio CD)
This is the mother of all hardcore albums. It's 13 songs full of pure adrenaline, politically driven lyrics, and raw melodic heaviness. It is my favorite album of all time and will remain it. Every song has it's own enjoyable hook and they're all difficult to get tired of. 'The Stench of Piss', 'Iraqnophobia', 'Pound for Pound', 'Lesson Learned', and 'Johnny Black' are standout tracks representing this albums brutal sound. Pro-Pain defines hardcore and stays true to their style with every album they make. I just had to make a review for this cd to say how great it is, I can't wait for their new album 'Shreds of dignity' to be released on March 19 2002. I havent heard it but I know it will be great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Metal & hardcore in a new direction, December 7, 2009

This review is from: Foul Taste of Freedom (Audio CD)
I've been a hard rock & metal fanatic for about a decade now. Over the years, I have seen potentially great artists come & go (or disband).

This album here is different. Pro Pain are still going strong almost 20 years since this debut album of their's. The songs are killer, completely driven, and ferocious. From my point of view - EXCELLENT!!! Here is a track breakdown (giving the songs ratings on a scale of 1-10)

1. Foul Taste of Freedom - 10/10

2. Death On The Dance Floor - 9/10

3. Murder 101 - 10/10

4. Pound for Pound - 10/10

5. Every Good Boy Does Fine - 9/10

6. Death Goes On - 10/10

7. Rawhead - 10/10

8. Stench of Piss - 10/10

9. Picture This - 10/10

10. Iraqnophobia - 10/10

11. Johnny Black - 10/10

12. Lesson Learned - 9/10

13. God Only Knows - 10/10

I would strongly recommend picking up this album to ANY fan of punk, hardcore, or metal with an attitude. This thundering masterpiece has played a major role in the anarchist / punk society, with metal to add to the fixens. The first AND the best!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pro-Pain deserve more credit, September 9, 2004
This review is from: Foul Taste of Freedom (Audio CD)
Five stars all the way.

Pro-Pain kick serious arse.

They exude power. Angry (balls in the back of throat) voice, crunching guitars, solid drumming - a hardcore metal orgasm.

Leaves the nu-metal poser clowns for dead.

As their first outing, they set themselves a high benchmark to follow and I believe they've been consistent ever since.

You really can't go wrong with Pro-Pain, if you're a fan of all things loud and in your face.

Shows that you don't need nine in a band wearing face masks to create a heavy aesthetic.

Stand out tracks: Foul Taste Of Freedom, Iraqnophobia, The Stench Of Piss, God Only Knows.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Start, June 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Foul Taste of Freedom (Audio CD)
I think this is a good start for the band. I don't think they new what direction they were going with this album (some of the songs are a little "rappy" but other songs are real heavy). Well worth a listen, but I wouldn't say it is their best album
