5.0 out of 5 stars James Grippando excels with "Found Money", January 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Found Money (Hardcover)
What would you do if someone delivered a package to your door containing $200,000? Would you stash it away or would you launch a search to find out where the money originated? This is the plot in James Grippando's new novel "Found Money" (HarperCollins $25). When I first began to read "Found Money" I found the plot a bit irritating. After all, wouldn't you want to secure the cash before jeopardizing it by asking questions? But Grippando is such a talented writer I had to see where he was going with the story. I'm glad I did because he weaves a fully believable tale that will stay with you long after you finish the book. "Found Money" begins when Amy Parkins finds $200,000 in cash in a cardboard box delivered to her door. In the meantine, Ryan Duffy inherits a fortune from his penniless father. Amy and Ryan, who have never met, soon cross paths to discover that found money can be a treasure or an atrocity. Ryan and Amy discover horrifying crimes that touched their families years ago and must solve a perilous puzzle to learn the truth. Just when you think you have read Grippando's best work, he tops it with another spellbinding novel that will keep you reading well into the night to reach the dramatic conclusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real-life dilemma makes this a great thriller, April 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Found Money (Hardcover)
The best thrillers are those that put ordinary people in extraordinary situations. That is exactly what happens in this book and what makes it such a great thriller. Everyone has at one time or another wondered what he or she would do upon coming into a great deal of money. But what would you do if you suspected the money was ill-gotten? And what if you suspected that the wrongdoer was a family member? Those are the questions facing the characters in this book, and what they do and go through kept me flipping the pages until I finished the book. Grippando gets better with every book.

5.0 out of 5 stars "FOUND" - New Favorite Suspense Author, July 19, 2004
By

This review is from: Found Money (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first book from James Grippando but certainly won't be the last. The book starts with a bang and it builds momentum.

When Ryan's father died, he left him 2 million dollars in the attic. It is up to Ryan to figure out where and how his father got his hand on so much cash.

At the time that Ryan is learning about this unexpected inheritance, Amy Parkens whose mother died of a suicide 20 years ago receives two hundred thousand from Ryan's father.

Ryan and Amy are drawn together in order to solve the mystery of who was Frank Duffy.

Without giving the plot, I have to say that this was one of the quickest books I have ever read because I gobbled up 450 pages in less than 3 days (a record for me). Once Ryan and Amy start searching for answers they stir the pot and pretty soon you have an ex-wife, slimy lawyer, malicious brother-in-law and a miserable sister, all dying to get their hands on the money.

Well you can guess how the book progresses, each time you think you have figured out who is guilty or who is not, Grippando surprises us with another twist.

This was truly a good book that left me wanting to read all his books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put It Down!, February 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Found Money (Hardcover)
It's rare that I make time to read a book in one weekend, but I simply couldn't put this one down. I was kept guessing until the very end. The suspense was palpable. The main characters were people I could know, in fact, I felt I did know them. They were believeable, well-described and the objects of my sympathy and empathy. The basic premise of the book was inventive, not something I've read and re-read, as are the plots of many books in this genre. I've read all of Mr. Grippando's books and they just keep getting better and better. I already can't wait for the next one! Great job!

I really loved reading this book because I never knew what I should expect next. The author tells a story that captivated me and kept me on the edge of my seat and I had a hard time putting this book down.

Amy Parkens receives a package one day with 200,000.00 dollars in it and she has no idea who would send it to her. Ryan Duffy's father has just died and not only has he found a million dollars in cash in his fathers attic and he has know idea how the money got there. The two eventually team up to solve these mysteries and their investigation leads them down a road they would never expect. The author inserts many different plot twist and turns and the ending really did surprise me. I would recommend this book highly to everyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars LOVED IT!, May 1, 2001
This review is from: Found Money (Mass Market Paperback)
How does a young man inherit millions in cash from his dying 'penniless' father? How does a young, struggling, single mum receive $200,000 in the post? How are these two events and people related? And how does this make for a sensational book? Well, it just does!

For a suspense novel, it has got to be one of the most interesting ones out there, if not, just for a great premise for the entire book, very original!

Amy Parkens receives $200,00 cash from a donor, who has decided to keep themselves hidden. Ryan Duffy's father leaves him millions in cash, but Ryan has always known his father to be a hardworking electrician, hardly a millionaire. How did his Dad get the money? Extortion? Mafia? Drug runner? As Ryan uncovers his father's life, Amy is trying to figure out who sent her the money and for what reason.

Amy & Ryan's lives come hurtling together and this makes for interesting reading as you try and figure out what happened. Even when you think you know, you don't!

This is an excellent suspense novel, definately recommended!!!

I'd gone to a nearby bookstore to try to find another J.F. Freedman paperback but was out of luck; everything on the shelf I'd already read. Damn! But, then Fate took pity on me--in a big way. Not far from the Freedman section I chanced upon somebody named Grippando (is it Gri-pan'-do---or, is it Gri-pahn'do?)---and wow! It's been a long time since I've read hour upon hour just to get to the point where I had an inkling of the climactic moment, but James Grippando did it! Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Grippando---your little boy James grew up into one of the most exciting young writers I've ever read. I sure wish I had enough cash to reserve the movie rights to "Found Money" and "The Pardon"---and can't wait to read everything else by this guy I can find.
