This is a very confusing book. Go back Marilyn James and fix it. The plot is good, but you skip back and forth. Adding here and there, and adding something new. You did not proof read. Misspelled words. Come on. Fix it.

The story had nice twists and turns. For that it's a 5. But the author used a lot of recent phrases (not suitable for the setting of the book), and it needed editing. For that it's a 3. Overall, a 4.

There are many instances of modern expressions and speech patterns in these stories. Having a "fun" time.....until the 1980's fun was used ONLY as a noun! "Being there" for someone is a term of the late eighties. There are so many of these usages and I found it aggravating. Are there no editors any more?

I have read all in this series and though I enjoyed them; they ALL followed a formula
1. In every storyline there is someone either killed or seriously injured by a tree
2. The author or editor does not understand that a:
WIDOWER = a man whose wife has died
WIDOW= a woman whose husband has died
The two words are NOT interchangeable!!
3. Sometimes names are confused
4. Missing spelling simple words - spell check!
5. The wedding night was written carefully BUT as in each story, just the names were changed, the wording was almost exactly the same
6. I would have liked to read more about the men seeking wives
7. Not all women need to be in a desperate situation
8. The author obviously has imagination please use it

Lastly I do recommend this series as long as the reader just wants to kill a bit of time and doesn't mind the above mentioned problems

Margaret was to marry Charles. Charles bought Margaret a very expensive dress and she was to meet him the next morning. She got ready and the carriage took her to where she was to get married. Only when she got there Charles was already gone. Margaret was heartbroken. She was staying with Ethel and Clara. One day Ethel told her she had to leave before winter. So she went into town and wrote a letter to become a mail order bride.

Margaret and her father were having problems. The land that they farmed did not produce enough to provide for them. Charles has plan. He had Margaret's father switch properties with an older couple, which allowed her father to have fertile land. Charles has been courting Margaret and they make plans to marry. Charles leaves town and Margaret. Margaret becomes a mail order bride.
