I'm always excited to get a chance at listening to new music, as the range of styles I listen to is pretty wide. Like with most CD's I automatically add them onto my iPod, so that I can listen to them wherever I am. The first listen through of Push Plays new album Found had me feeling like I was back listening to former boy bands like New Kids On The Block,`N Sync and Backstreet Boys. For me this wasn't a good thing. I did listen to the CD a second time, but because I knew I likely wasn't their target demographic I eventually handed it off to my daughter who is 15. Two days later I asked her opinion and it wasn't that great. She's not a fan of the Jonas Brothers or similar Disney-esque type acts and although there were songs like "Midnight Romeo" which had some mature references - she said it was just "Too Pop and Too Average" for her to keep listening to. There's obviously an age range and music type that will enjoy Push Play, but apparently neither myself or my daughter are it.

Boy band with guitars makes for pop rock fun, December 13, 2009

Push Play joins a growing trend of pretty boy bands who are really just the new generation of "boy bands", without the choreography and with power pop with more of a rock edge than a dance sound. Although they've gotten NO airplay, they surely deserve it. Mostly rock, with a bit of an electronic dance edge on a couple of songs, they have catchy pop tunes that would be comfortable on the radio right next to Fall Out Boy, Metro Station, and Boys Like Girls. Not sure why radio hasn't given them a chance, because this album is loaded with potential hits. There are really only two downtempo, 'ballad-like' tracks, the last two--Where I Belong and Start Again. You also get a remix of the lead single Midnight Romeo. The mix isn't much different than the original mix, and the song could be the reason they haven't gotten any airplay. It's just not the strongest song to release as the first single. Kind of generic. Not rockish or dance-oriented enough.

Boy Bands are back!, December 15, 2009

Do you miss the group harmonies of `N Sync? Do you miss the group choreography of Backstreet Boys? Do you secretly love the sounds of the Disney Channel? If you said "yes" to any of these questions, this CD may be for you! It's been a long time since I've heard a band that carried the "boy band" sound more than Push Play. As I listened to this CD, by brain unwillingly began to imagine group choreography. Step-step-spin and freeze pose! I guess it was all of the harmonies. Luckily, my brain is like at etch-a-sketch. I was able to shake vigorously and get the image to just fade away. Push Play sounds like everything I've heard before, with uninspired lyrics and dull instrumentation, it has a great chance of ending up in high rotation on your local top 40 radio station.
