The difficulty with an album like this -- one that's filled with "lost" tracks, as it were -- is that it's basically for people who are already big fans of the band. That's a problem because most of those people already HAVE these tracks. When the band broke up after United by Fate, these tracks were all over the internet, and since there was (at the time) no hope of seeing them properly released, people gobbled them up.

For those who wish to support the band, at least we now have the chance, even if there's nothing here that we haven't heard before.

Another problem with an album like this is that it collects "lost" tracks, but it doesn't collect everything. I've never understood why labels do that. Maybe the band didn't like the half dozen or so other songs that have yet to be released.

Anyway, here's a break down for you, of the lost tracks (two of which are earlier versions of songs from Pedals):

1. Dreamlife Avenger

An excellent opener. You can kind of hear United by Fate sound kind of moving towards the Pedals sound, that kind of angular guitar riff/rhythm with some wah-wah experimentation.

2. Reaching Out

Nice duel guitar bits on this song, building into a fairly large chorus. I have to guess that people everywhere are talking about the verse and mentioning Fugazi. Not as good as the first track, but still classic Rival Schools.

3. Indisposable Heroes

This one's great. Awesome opening riff that comes back as a bridge? It's not really the chorus. I'm not sure if there's a traditional chorus in this song, actually. Another one that feels like the link between the two albums.

4.

Really great music, but i wish Walter would have scrapped the early guide vocals and record them again with improved lyrics. Still love Wally and will continue to support whatever he does. Please stay busy and put out many more great LP's. Love ya Wally

It's hard to complain about a new release from Rival Schools. While not every track on this album is a stand out in the way that United by Fate's tracklist stood out, this is a very likable collection of earlier recordings. Think of it as a bridge between United by Fate and Pedals, their 2011 reunion album. Found even contains a few early cuts of tracks that ended up on Pedals, namely "Big Waves" and "Sofia Loren" (later known as "Shot After Shot").

Found is a high-quality release of Rival Schools' "lost" second album, which floated around the internet in poor-quality mp3s for the last decade, give or take. It's exciting to finally hear these tracks the way they were meant to be heard, but it's disheartening that a band as talented as Rival Schools doesn't get much recognition.

If you like Rival Schools, you've probably bought this already. If you're new to the band, start with United by Fate and go from there.

Found is a solid album and a great treasure for long-time fans.

After Rival Schools' debut album "United By Fate", and their subsequent breakup afterwards I yearned for a new Rival Schools record for about a decade. Last year we got one with "Pedals" which was mostly material written ten years ago that was re-recorded and released. "Found" seems to be an entirely new album, and is a bit less stale than "Pedals". Although still lacking the perfection that was "UBF", "Found" is a nice call from the early '00s that reminds us of what could have been if Rival Schools had stuck together. A must buy for post-punk listeners and people into that mid to late 90's sound.
