"[A] hilarious treat."
Los Angeles Times
"A deeply thoughtful compendium of literary pieces. Leave it to the folks at McSweeney's to tap Apatow's Updike-ian erudition. It speaks remarkably well of him that he esteems the delicate humor of such intricately crafted pieces as Raymond Carver's 'Elephant' and Flannery O'Connor's 'Good Country People.' It speaks even better of him that the profits from his book which mixes these subtle humor pieces with more flat-out funny stuff from Philip Roth, David Sedaris, Steve Martin, Nora Ephron and Jonathan Ames, among many others go to 826 National, the organization committed to promoting creative writing among students age 6 to 18."

Perhaps it is funny that some of the material isn't funny at all. But most of it is. Some of the selections like the Jonathan Ames piece and the Ian Frazier piece are laugh out loud in bed at night funny. Others like the Flannery O'Connor and the Tobias Wolff stories are not humorous, per se, but are odd, bizarre, and mind blowing in a way that transcends laughter. And because this is a collection of thirty-eight unrelated pieces any individual piece that did not grab my attention at once was skipped (sorry).
All in all I had high expectations for this book and they were exceeded - this is a book I looked forward to reading each night. I have enjoyed Judd Apatow's films and I enjoyed this book - his take on literature seen through the eyes of a creative person with (he admits) a short attention span.
A request to the editors at McSweeney's Books - consider future volumes of *I Found This Funny* with various interesting people as editors. I'd love to read more like this.
Note to Amazon - The book is 480 pages, not 224 pages.

I had no idea it contained filthy humor, that my son found so objectionable, he threw the brand new (expensive) book in the trash can! 'Taught me a lesson.Published 14 months ago by Charlene Cason
I realize humor is subjective, but not one of these stories made me really laugh. The best ones were interesting. The worst ones were depressing. Read morePublished 22 months ago by Jennifer M
There are quite a few funny selections, but almost as many more that aren't funny. So often I would get half way through a selection, thinking there's nothing funny yet, it must be... Read morePublished on April 12, 2013 by Youbetcha
I've read the first four stories and thought they were just ok. None have really seemed 'funny,' but more quaint. Read morePublished on May 30, 2011 by Dave
unless a person thinks it is funny to pull wings off a fly this book is not funny at all. Could argue it is reasonably interesting, but definitely not funny. Read morePublished on January 13, 2011 by Annhe Lesbow
It had funny bits, it had unfunny bits. But most of the book was hilarious, and that made it worth it. Not to mention I got it signed by Apatow "Sorry for my years of [...] jokes."Published on January 4, 2011 by DH
