From the Back Cover

New methods for restoring and constructing stable foundations Featuring 35% all-new information, this significantly updated new edition provides engineers, architects, appraisers, and inspectors with the most comprehensive practical insight to date into the basic foundation construction and behavior in residential and light commercial structures. Foundation Behavior and Repair features an abundance of new research on the influence of several factors on foundation stability--including roots, natural water moisture migration, the effects of induced moisture, and variations in foundation designs. Using the latest field data, it also spotlights the limitations of today's widely accepted repair methods while bringing to light alternative repair procedures that ensure optimal results at the lowest possible cost. In addition to new material on site drainage and soil chemistry, the book covers: Basic elements of site engineering, preparation, and development; Essential principles of soil mechanics and foundation design; Procedures designed to identify the presence and causes of foundation distress; Techniques geared to prevent recurring distress problems; The impact of foundation repair on property values. . .and includes a detailed checklist that facilities property inspections and structural evaluations. Enhanced by numerous photos and drawings as well as real-life examples that bring practical applications into clearer focus, this latest edition of Foundation Behavior and Repair debunks many long-held myths in the field while introducing evaluation, restoration, and prevention procedures that work.

5.0 out of 5 stars It seems very good for professionals, July 24, 2009
This review is from: Foundation Behavior and Repair: Residential and Light Construction (Hardcover)
I found this to be of almost no help in repair of my 60 year old house. This is not for the the Do it your self person like me. It was interesting about soils and behavior but i just need some advice on repairing the house. So it seems for the pro its excellent but a big waste of money for the average homeowner with a big major problems to deal with themselves
