Book Description

October 2002
In this third book, the authors have created many innovative foundation border patterns with simple, no-math string piecing, as well as borders made of strips, squares, triangles, blocks, and block segments. The section on built-in borders explores designs made by extending blocks into the border, by completing a secondary design where two blocks meet, and by using recolored whole or partial blocks. The reader will also find a handy summary of paper foundation piecing techniques and about 30 full sized border patterns. A collection of photos of more than 50 quilts with successful foundation pieced borders will inspire quilters to explore new options. AUTHORBIO: A resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jane has been a quiltmaker for more than 20 years. She teaches, lectures, and judges quilts across the country. She likes to work with traditional patterns, using innovative colorations to create new graphics. Log Cabin designs are among her favorites. AUTHORBIO: Dixie Haywood resides in Pensacola, Florida. She has been quilting for more than 40 years. Dixie also teaches and judges throughout the country and has authored over 150 articles and five books (three with Jane Hall). REVIEW: Provides nearly thirty full-sized border patterns blending tips and techniques for foundation borders.... -Midwest Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, Innovative, Great Use of Color, June 9, 2009
This review is from: Foundation Borders (Paperback)
Thorough, very well organized, full color through-out. I found this book inspirational -- giving me great ideas for perking up quilts with very cool, coordinating borders. The authors show how to use foundation piecing to create complex borders with ease. Many of the quilts are simply amazing -- made to look incredibly richer and more complex with these borders. I recommend this book highly!

Compared to "Border Workbook: Easy Speed Pieced and Foundation Pieced Borders" by Janet Kime, this book isn't anywhere near as good.
