About the Author

Kelly Wardrop is the President of Visionary Labs and developer consultant for Dental 101. She is also the published author of several popular technical books and has taught various web development courses at University of Miami, Miami-Dade Community College and Broward Community College.

Carolyn Owen is a graphic artist who has been involved in web design since 1995. Currently she is employed by Digital Road Corporation, where over the past three years she has developed hundreds of sites internationally for medical professionals. She also freelances as a web designer, graphic artist and 3D animator for a clientele that varies from professional musicians to state universities.

This was a somewhat helpful book in getting some insight into LiveCycle Desiger. It covers some aspects OK, such as overall design tips and form setup, but does suffer from somewhat poor organization and clarity. It does not do a good job when it comes to covering how to distribute and collect forms - lots of gaps in those areas. It also does not cover scripting all that well, and provides very few examples of FormCalc or Java.

A CD-ROM would have been a welcome addition to this book. Many of the details of form creation really need to be viewed as "real" examples rather than just descriptions in the book.

I found the PDF Form Bible to be a lot more useful than this book. A bit more costly, but far more comprehensive, better organized and better written. It also has a CD-ROM that is very helpful.

The most accurate rating would be 2.5 stars. It's OK, but there are much better ones out there. If you can get this as I did from a third party seller at a good price used, it's worth getting. At regular price, I'd pass it by.

If you are new to LiveCycle Designer and trying to learn about dynamic forms, I'd suggest you look somewhere besides this book. As another reviewer said, the book is poorly organized and has huge gaps in the information it does convey. Four pages are devoted to listing the Local Identifier Codes (Qatar is ar_QA), but only a few sentences are spent on the all-important topic of dynamic subforms. I bought this book hoping to improve my skills with LiveCycle Designer, but after reading it from cover to cover I don't feel a single topic was adequately covered or explained. Like I said, it's not worth the money!
