as the name implies, this book is truly meant for beginner. If you are already a Director user, this book may not be appropriate for you. If you are looking for lesson on integrating 3D content into Director, this book does provide one short chapter on it, hardly sufficient for any serious work. Don't waste your money if you are already a Director user. However, if you are a beginner, you may like to consider this book for its simplicity and direct approach.

I bought this book some time ago when Director 8.5 first came out, so there wasn't a large selection of books to pick from. And because it was a new book there weren't any customer reviews on it, so I threw caution to the wind and ordered it. Well...what can I say except it'll wind up gathering dust on your shelf like mine. I can't see how so many talented writers made such a boring book. It's definitely not for beginners, and even if you were intermediate to advanced, you wouldn't want to drudge through this thing. Whoever was in charge of the layout of this book should never work in publishing again.

It was a real chore trying to read it. Every time I picked it up I wound up putting it back down almost instantly. What this book desperately needed was a good tutorial (at the beginning of the book). They should've put in a tutorial that you could've worked through, one with plenty of illustrations. Also, either include a CD with some of the projects and tutorial or at least a Web site to download them. And stick to the ol' KISS--Keep It Simple Stupid.

... The book was poorly written, not enough creenshots. I suspect that it was hacked very quickly to hit the shelves in time as it is the only book on the 8.5 version (at the time).

I give it a 2 stars because is still helps you getting started with director. I was in hurry so I had to buy this book. If you have time, look for something else !
