A Great Introduction to Bilingual Education,
By Aine Casey (Illinois, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Foundations of Dual Language Instruction (Second Edition) (Paperback)
This book was required reading for a class I took, and I think it is a great introduction to bilingual education. Even if you think you have the basic idea of what bilingual education is, this book provides everything from the history of bilingual education to its legal basis to teaching strategies. A great book that should be read by anyone interested in education, even if your focus isn't dual language instruction. The odds are that most teachers in the U.S. today will work with English language learners at some point, and this book will give any teacher a greater understanding of the role of language in the classroom.

Outstanding Book in Outlining the Theories and Background of Dual Language Education,
By Lynn Ellingwood "The ESOL Teacher" (Webster, NY United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Foundations of Dual Language Instruction, 5th Edition (Paperback)
This book goes much deeper and contains a lot more information than most books on the subject of TESOL and dual language education go. The book covers theories on language acquisition, development and history of laws in the US surroundings students who speak other languages at home, and educational programs to teach these students English. I graduated awhile ago and am a practicing teacher but this was a great book to remind me about my profession and refresh my memory. This book goes much deeper than most professional books do. I really appreciated reading it and highly recommend it. I am not a bilingual teacher, but an ESOL teacher but it still reminded me what my students are missing and why it would be good to have better programs.

I was not pleased with the book I ordered. The summary stated "like new" condition but upon receipt it had yellow and pink highlighting all throughout the book. Also it was written along the sides of different passages. I did not have time to send it back for refund since my semester had already started. Unfortunately, I will not be ordering from this company again.Jinny

Needed book for college course; very well written, though has much
