5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic on its Subject, August 27, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a very good, probably the best textbook available in the U.S. regarding the topic of history and philosophy of education, intended for undergraduate students. The authors did minor updateds to the previous edition. Since there has been little change as to history and philosophy of education in the last few years, you do not have to buy the last edition unless your instructor requires so.
The content is presented in 16 chapters, as follow:
1-2 Teaching profession, preparation of teachers
3-5 World roots of education, Pioneers, historical development of education in the U.S.
6-8 Governing-administering, finances and legal aspects of public education
9-11 Cultural and social aspects, race/social class, equal access to the educational system
12-14 Philosophycal aspects, the purpose of education, curriculum
15-16 Internation education, school effectiveness and reform in the U.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, April 5, 2007

The text is very clear and informative. I've only just started reading it but the format and the language used is great. It really puts the decision of becoming an educator in perspective. It's almost like a parent saying, "Are you sure this is what you want to do? Have you considered, this, that and the other?" I like it! It's exactly what I needed.

I'm using this book to study for a DSST test, and so far it has been a great resource. My favorite part is the summary at the end of each chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great delivery time!, April 7, 2011

I found out just 4 days before my class started that I did not have the right edition of this book and the University book store wasn't supplying it either. Luckily I came across this here on Amazon and I couldn't be happier with the service provided. I received my book in 2 days, in perfect brand new condition. I would definitely purchase through this seller again in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars College Education on Education, March 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is very good. Although it is a later edition, it still holds all the information of the newest edition. The only bad thing is that some of the chapters are a little different, so you really have to pay attention to the teacher lectures and sometimes find the information in the book on your own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Foundations of Education (Student Text), March 9, 2010

The professor was kind enough not to ask us to buy the new eleventh edition, the tenth edition was chosen to save us all some money. If I had to buy this book at the college bookstore I would have spent double. And when I go to sell it back to the bookstore they give me 50 cents on the dollar. So, for better than 50 cents on the dollar I have the book, and if I chose to keep it I still did better than going to the college bookstore. Great savings for me, I get to add the book to my library if I choose, and it arrived in plenty of time to use for class. I look forward to buying more textbooks this way.
