Foundations on Rock is a practical reference book describing current engineering practice in the investigation, design and construction of foundations on rock. The methods described are applicable to high-rise buildings, bridges, dams and structures subjected to uplift and overturning loads. The author is a highly experienced geotechnical engineer who has worked in the field of rock engineering for the past 25 years. He has undertaken projects throughout North America, and in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. The book differs from the many texts on soil foundations in that it focuses on the effect of geology on the stability and settlement of rock foundations. While the intact rock may be strong, defects in the rock such as faults, joints and cavities, and the deterioration of rock with time, will have a significant influence on foundation performance. Methods of detecting such defects, accounting for them in design and treating them during construction are described. Foundations on Rock is the only book devoted to this important subject. It has been written for practising engineers and for graduate students in geological engineering and rock mechanics.

GOOD MANUAL BUT PRICEY,

I am a dam engineer, working for an italian consulting company.
Foundations on rock is a good manual, being a reference book in our firm together with US army corps manuals. Please consider that the author often follows Hoek's empirical approach for rock mechanics ( he wrote the update of one of Hoek books ). Therefore I think you should buy this book if you like Hoek's approach. This book includes several practical examples together with a complete description of the theory behind. The only drawback of this book, on my opinion, is its price. Because of its price this book aims at the professionals market only.
