My wife and I have both read this really great book.Every American should know this information by heart. It makes us even more proud to be an American and to appreciate what our "Founding Fathers" went through to give us such a wonderful heritage. They were truly dedicated, intelligent men who were willing to sacrifice everything,if need be,in order to get their new nation started on Godly principles.
Our Constitution is as valid today(maybe even more so) as it was when ratified inspite of many court decisions which have tried to change the origional intent of the framers.
We recommend that this book be past of every school's history curriculum

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, March 27, 2003

At last a book that masterfully brings our Founding Fathers to life! Steve Allen has captured both the awe-inspiring and shocking facts about these men and put them into one easy-to-read literary work. I was surprised to discover the daily "air-baths" of Benjamin Franklin, together with his rascally ways of getting the closest seat near the fire. I was also touched by Franklin's resolutions to become a better person. The vision of George Washington to win his battles is unparalled. And I never knew that Patrick Henry had 17 children! A wonderful book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Enjoyable History!, December 10, 2002
By
This review is from: Founding Fathers: Uncommon Heroes (Paperback)
I have always been interested in historical information, especially about our country's Founding Fathers. I was extremely surprised to be entertained in addition to gaining more insight to our Founding Fathers than can be found from any other single resource that I am aware of. This is one of the very few books that I have recommended and will continue to recommend to my friends and colleagues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating & Captivating!, July 5, 2005
This review is from: Founding Fathers: Uncommon Heroes (Paperback)
Wonderfully written, this book holds the reader's attention from beginning to end. This book is not only for history buffs, but for anyone who wants a fascinating glimpse of the lives of our founding fathers. Written in the form of short biographies, it makes it easy to put down and pick up again without having to re-read the previous chapter. The timeline in the end also makes it easy to put all of the events into perspective. This will be required reading for my own homeschool children, and should be required for all young adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brings these men to life!, October 2, 2002
By
This review is from: Founding Fathers: Uncommon Heroes (Paperback)
The way history is often taught in American schools is to cram a lot of names, dates and figures in just long enough to pass a test, then subsequently forget them. Reading Founding Fathers -- Uncommon Heroes reminded me just how fascinating American history truly is, and how rich a heritage we have. So many of the freedoms we enjoy today we owe to sacrifices these men and other men and women made, yet they faced many of the same personal challenges and crises we encounter today. The book reveals many interesting, humorous and touching tidbits about their lives, bringing them to life like never before. I couldn't put it down, and I hope it is followed by another profiling others who helped make America the great country it is today!

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it!, October 2, 2002

This review is from: Founding Fathers: Uncommon Heroes (Paperback)
What a wonderful book! It is clear to me now why our country has always been and remains such a great nation. This book has opened my eyes on such a personal level to the amazing men who founded this country. They were men of character and integrity. As I read page after page, I felt that I was not only learning "about" these great individuals, but that I was getting to know them. Steven W. Allen succeeds in bringing them to life by relating many personal stories from their lives that I've never read in any other historical work about the Founding Fathers. I loved it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Religious slant to this book, July 13, 2011

This would have been a fine book if it was not for the slanted vision of the religious nature of some of the founders. The total lack of reference and denial of the harsh vision Jefferson had of religion and the religious is particularly off the mark. In addition Franklin and Washington, both known rationalists, are presented as traditional Christians. Finally, it is quite sad that Thomas Paine, a vocal atheist, and a man so pivotal to our nation is almost totally ignored.

5.0 out of 5 stars Founding Fathers, Uncommon Heroes, September 13, 2010

I recently ordered both the book and the audio CD's for "Founding Fathers-Uncommon Heroes". My wife and I listened to the CD's on a recent trip, and both of us thought they were great.. really good narrator, and inspiring information. These men were obviously inspired throughout their lives in order to have accomplished the things they did and to make the difficult, uncommon decisions that they did. We owe them alot. Everyone who lives in the the United States should read this book, and it should be on the reading list of every junior high school and high school in the country. Steven Allen has done an awesome job of researching this material and organizing it into a truly memorable text and audio presentation.

The book was in excellent condition. I wasn't aware there were different editions of this book. The one we already owned was the LDS Edition, but we have used it so often, the pages were coming loose. I really wanted the LDS Edition, but the one you sent wasn't LDS. However, it was in great condition and I have since found that the LDS Edition is out of print. I wouldn't hesitate to order from Amazon again.
