This is the same as Pelikan 4001 Black or Brilliant Black. It dries to a nice, dark, opaque black color. It is not very water resistant. It is not safe for writing checks. It feels good during writing. It is popular with fountain pen enthusiasts.

As a frequent note-writer, I recently made the leap to the fountain pen by buying two Cross pens, a couple of sets of the ink refills here under review, and a Mont Blanc ink fountain.

Although I've already grown to enjoy 'dipping', there are times when the pen refill is the way to go; while traveling, for example.

These plastic refills slip into place without complication and become 'holed' as they do. After that, you simply begin writing. A steady but controlled stream of high-quality ink makes the rest a breeze.

People accustomed to a ballpoint pen may be surprised--as I was--by the short lifespan of these refills. I suspect you simply lay down a lot more ink with a fountain pen than with a ballpoint. No matter, it's worth it.

I bought a cross pen, and when I ran out of refills, I went to a local store that sold cross. They told me that I could use another brand of ink and everything would be just fine. Well, it wasn't. It was of the wrong consistency and my pen ran and ran. So, I finally found these and my pen is right as rain now.

This ink is the same as Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black. The cartridge shapes for A. T. Cross and Pelikan fountain pens are different, so pay attention if you're ordering cartridges. Pelikan 4001 ink bottles come in two sizes, while A. T. Cross ink bottles come only in the larger size. This ink is a true black (unlike some black fountain pen inks), and it is very smooth to write with, too. It is not very water-resistant, and it is not safe for writing checks.

4 snaps and a circle ... it works and looks good and did I mention it works ...

I got blue ink, not black with this order. its not a terribly big deal, it was the correct brand and cartridge, but still, annoying.

Own a few Cross pens. These cartridges are expensive in regular stationery outlets, on line or not.

Ink open refills are necessary for work play, thought sharing. I ordered these refills from this vendor and received them in rapid order.
