Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Edita Kaye approached her 50th birthday with dismay. She had tried every diet (many twice), and couldn't shake herself down from a size 16 ("on a good day and a lousy scale"). Obsessed with extra pounds, wrinkles and jowls, Kaye decided to give up on weight loss and use her background as a medical reporter to investigate anti-aging techniques. She discovered the "fountain of youth": antioxidants. Amazingly, this secret to staying youthful also resulted in weight loss. In one year Kaye lost 20 pounds and "10 years" off her appearance. Her magic formula is actually a sensible, low-fat eating plan high in the antioxidant nutrients--vitamins E and C, beta-carotene, and calcium.

Kaye's experience and this-is-your-girlfriend-telling-you style are motivating and meant to inspire you to make a change. She tells her personal story and discusses aging theories in a jaunty style. Free radicals are like a "stag line at the cellular prom"; antioxidants are the "cellular cops...a free radical swat team." The book explains the benefits and sources of each of the antioxidant nutrients, then presents three months of antioxidant-rich menus and 100 easy recipes. --Joan Price --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From Library Journal

You can't be too thin or too young-looking, and medical journalist Kaye offers a 90-day, six-meals-a-day plan that helps you be both. Look for the Fountain of Youth TV program, which will begin airing upon the book's publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked for me., July 20, 1999
In April of 98' I sat in the dentist office, 44 years old, 50 pounds overweight and ready to have my teeth all pulled. I had given up on ever looking good again. While waiting, I picked up the Lady's Home Journal and read Edita's Fountain of Youth Plan. At that point I decided to turn things around. I did not have my teeth pull, instead I had them all fixed. Then I went straight to buy the foods I needed to start the plan. I have been on it for over a year now. I have lost 50lbs and I feel great. Then someone told me Edita had a book out too. I could not wait to get it. I found I could have written the first two pages where she tells of how she felt before the diet and about her live long struggle with her wieght. I had stayed on the 7 day plan from the magizine not altering it a bit, but now the book gives me a more comprehensive extented version and more reciepts. I love it. I am a true believer. I recommend it to everyone who is ready and willing to make the lifestyle change it requires.

This is an easy to follow, easy to stay on diet. I lost 15 pounds in about 2 months and feel more energetic and just generally healthier. I never feel hungry. I plan to stay on this "diet" for the rest of my life. I like it so well, I recommend it highly, and I have bought extra copies of the book for family members.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but possibly not for everyone, May 4, 1998
By A Customer
I followed Edita's diet for 45 days I can say honestly that if I had been losing the weight I'd hoped for, it would have been easy to continue for the full 90 days. Maybe longer. There was more food on the menu for each day than I could consume. More sweets and carbohydrates than I had been eating (and I suspect my undoing). I did feel much better though. The testing made me avare of my high cholesterol count The vitamin information is well presented here and the 1/2 hour a day exercise is a good start for the long sedentary. And steamed (her selection) vegetables are now a staple at our dinner table.
