Editorial Reviews

Our attitudes and beliefs about aging can actually determine how we feel and look. These exercises effectively slow down - and in numerous cases even reverse - the aging process.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good tape; get a book to supplement it., February 1, 2001

This review is from: Fountain of Youth: Five Tibetan Exercises for Rejuvenation [VHS] (VHS Tape)
SUMMARY: This tape is a good way to learn the Five Rites of Rejuvenation as originally documented by Peter Kelder; you can learn the exercises in about 20 minutes from this video versus deciphering the instructions in a book. I recommend getting a book to supplement the tape, though, for details of execution.

DETAILS: The production quality (camera work and editing) is excellent, with nice scenery and artistic fades. Everything done is clear; this is not one of those instructional tapes that looks like it was shot with a discount video camera and duplicated on a home VCR; this is a professional job.

Between rites, relaxed breathing and rest are demonstrated, which unifies the routine, an advantage of this video over any book I have seen.

This video deviates from Kelder's instructions in a few minor places. It does not even mention the 6th rite, which draws sexual energy into the rest of the body for use in personal evolution. The twirling direction for the 1st rite is not given until the final 15-minute full routine: to the right for northern hemisphere, to the left for southern hemisphere. This point was not made during the instructional portion and the video was filmed in Australia or New Zealand, so I thought they had gotten the direction wrong!

The final 15-minute routine is on a beach with 5 people: 3 women and 2 men. Since they do the full 21 repetitions, people who have not worked up to that will need to pause and wait (or fast-forward the tape).

Due to the price and clarity, this would be a good gift or loaner tape for friends or relatives to get them "on board" with the Five Tibetans quickly and easily. I recommend combining this with a book, preferably Kelder's and Siegel's Book 2 (ISBN 0385491670) for its excellent details, alternative exercises, and suggestions for people with health problems for whom the exact rites are contraindicated, though Kilham's "The Five Tibetans" (ISBN 0892814500) is also recommended for its excellent photos and its placement of the 5 rites (and the 6th rite) in the context of Yoga by a very experienced Yoga practitioner and instructor. Get 'em both when you order this tape! ...
