5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sophmore Effort, June 11, 2005

This review is from: Fountains Free (Audio CD)
The Fountains Free album is the sophmore effort from Taja Sevelle formerly of the Paisley Park label. This 1991 cd goes into a complete different direction from her debut. The title track Fountains Free sounds as if Prince would have written it. The standout tracks are the title cut Fountains Free, Died Alive, What A State of Love, and Trouble Having You Near Remix. As you can see it is very affordable so you should go ahead and get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of the more wrongfully overlooked albums of 1991, December 1, 2010
This review is from: Fountains Free (Audio CD)
With a certain freshness not common to a lot of 1991 soul albums (or at least the ones made by younger, lesser-known singers like Taja --or, Nancy Richardson, as she was born-- ), this beautiful album features a heady mix of catchy, midtempo grooves and deft, robust ballads, the latter of which definitely seem to have some "secret ingredient" in them that wasn't used that much at the time this was made. Though it's not quite neo-soul (it's too old to really be called that), there's an earthy, relaxing feel to some of the slower selections (particularly the title track), that some of the more serious aficionadoes of mature, robust soul might want to check out, and she's actually got the vocal chops to really reach high on some of those ballads. "What a State Of Love" is also a warm, tender ballad, and there's a good groove to "Perpetual Motion".
