Product Description

The Four-Faced Liar, a comedy about drama, tells the story of a group of New York 20-somethings. Bridget is a hip, womanizing lesbian who lives with her guy pal Trip. One night they meet straight-laced New York newbies Greg and Molly at their favorite hangout, The Four-Faced Liar. Molly is a bit appalled by free-spirited Bridget but she's also attracted to her, and in time, the friends lives are hilariously complicated when the two women fall in love.

Review

[Emily] Peck and [Marja-Lewis] Ryan infuse their performances with effective and affecting measures of raw emotion and avid sensuality. Variety, Joe Leydon Sweet and spry Mercury News, Randy Meyers Ryan keeps the dialogue lively and funny... The Four-Faced Liar keeps you interested. Miami Herald --Wolfe

Customer Reviews

Watched the first 10 minutes and turned it off.

I honestly wanted to like this film, the characters so narcissistic and unwilling to put in the time and effort to make something be what they want it to be.
Kimberly Johnson
Really good acting, characters you care about, good story lines.

I have never watched a film before that touched me enough to write a review. But this film -- The Four Faced Liar -- did just that!

I have watched this film at least a dozen times already and I must say, the nuances in the screenplay as well as in the acting are SUPERB! Marja-Lewis Ryan's screenplay is so real and alive, I can actually see someone living it. As for the actors, they are true master's of their craft.

Yes, they are young, but they are very talented, especially Emily Peck and Marja-Lewis Ryan. To watch the "famous" bathroom scene is to watch art in motion. I say this not due to the sexual nature of the scene (although that's a plus), but because as Molly is trying to collect her thoughts, she is seen to be breathing quickly -- almost hyperventilating -- until Bridgette walks in; at which point Molly stops and holds her breath. I mean you can actually see Molly stop breathing and then start again just before she turns to face Bridgette. The sensuality, the fraility, the depth of emotion is felt throughout the entire scene. This is just one of my favorite scenes, so now extrapolate to the entire movie and you have a fair idea of just how good this film really is.

So if you have a romantic soul, whether you are gay or not, this is the film for you!

The Four-Faced Liar is a trendy gay-friendly bar in a part of New York City which doesn't look like New York City in the movies. This is the place where Molly meets Trip, her colleague from her studies in 19th century literature. Molly comes to the bar with her boyfriend Greg who has just arrived in NYC, Trip brings his lesbian flat-mate Bridget, as we soon learn he has also a girl-friend, ballet-dancer Chloe. They are all in their early twenties but the film doesn't offer much information on what they do apart from meeting friends and sharing drinks.
As it turns out Bridget and Molly share keen interest in 19th century novel - Wuthering Heights is their apparent favourite - and they hit it off immediately. The story line concentrates on the two girls - Molly learns to accept the fact that she is a lesbian, Bridget changes from a woman-eating out-and-proud lesbian into a possible girl-friend material. Neither change comes easy but fortunately both girls realise on time what they are about to lose if they stick to their former selves - Molly marrying Greg (who is sadly cast aside and learns rather late what is going on behind his back) and Bridget devouring more and more women. The other story line - Trip losing and winning back (and losing again) Chloe is far less prominent although offers some more laughs.
There are some pros and cons, as usual with GLBT productions - pros are decent screenplay and acting, a major con for me was the quality of sound. Maybe it's just me but I found it quite difficult to follow dialogues which took place in the bar.

This movie it true to the last minute with Molly and Bridget. Bridget is a womanizing lesbian and Molly has a big crush and just checking it out and what turns into something of just checking out turns into Love. This movie is a great movie when I got it I watched it over and over again that's how good it is. I Highly Recommend

I liked this film but I didn't love it. I believe they tried to give their characters substance but ran short. I would rent it instead of buying. Good for a lazy rainy night at home.

This was an awesome moving showing the struggles many people have with their sexual indentity. It also shows how you don't realize what a wonderful person you have in your life until you lose them by taking them for granted.
The only thing I had an issue with was the ending, it needed to go a little further down the road in the girls relationship.

I am not really into romantic comedy's, but I can say this one is pretty good. Most of the review are correct about the sound quality (I thought it was my sound bar), but it was only in the bar scenes. Although the storyline seems to lean toward the love triangle between the straight couple and another women (who is a lesbian), I feel like their storyline can apply to anyone. Like 99.9% of romantic comedy's out there, this one too has a predictable ending, but somehow they went about it in more of a clever way...for that I give it 4/5 stars.

I really enjoyed this little love story. I know cheating isn't right but when you find love or when it finds you it hits you and hits hard. A good watch and I will go to the pub it's named after.
