This book combines the wisdom of ancient philosophers, successful executives and leadership gurus into a clear roadmap for effective leadership. The four factors focus on common themes that can be found throughout most books on leadership and interpersonal effectiveness. These factors show that: - Everyone can be a leader - Leadership begins with you - Leadership is a relationship - Leadership produces positive change Using stories of famous leaders and infamous failures, the author illustrates the importance of the four factors: Influence, Integrity, Inspiration, and Improvement. These factors are contrasted with the pitfalls of ineffective leadership: Power, Position, Popularity, and Personality. Self-assessments for each factor are included to help you evaluate your leadership and develop a plan for continued improvement.
David Rendall started life as a pigeon-toed baby in Milwaukee. When he was eleven years old, his parents sent him to school with patches in his pants. He decided this was unacceptable, so he began collecting aluminum cans from dumpsters and got a job delivering newspapers at five o'clock every morning. Since then he has been a stock boy, lawn boy, caddie, painter, janitor, tutor, resident assistant, job coach, supervisor, nonprofit manager and senior executive.
He can't sit still, be quiet or do what he's told. He's also too idealistic and bad at managing details. All of these weaknesses help him to succeed as a speaker, leadership professor, stand-up comedian and endurance athlete.
During the last ten years he has spoken to hundreds of audiences throughout the United States, Africa, Canada, India, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. His clients include AT&T, GlaxoSmithKline, Tyco International, Jobs Australia, Potash Corp, Duke University and Value Options.
Early in his career, he managed nonprofit enterprises that provided employment for people with disabilities. He has more than fifteen years of experience leading people and organizations. David has a doctor of management degree as well as a graduate degree in psychology.
